I’m glad the name debate has been left behind….

 

It's perhaps fortunate that the opinions expressed here, as to the pros or cons of various names and various colours, will have zero influence on what emerges in due course from the works at Darlington.

 

A fantastic piece of modern Engineering! Great to see the progress on this locomotive, really looking forward to seeing its completion.

By 'in due course', do you mean the one after 2007?

 

That's a point: we could have 3403 (or rather, 61702) in boring BR black then.

 

Turned out “in steam” is my all time favourite livery….

 

We could ... but its a bit boring - would look pretty smart in Marsh Umber & Gold but that is just so not going to happen.
Suppose all three could be easily turned out in A1SLT corporate Livery ( apple green with black white lining/ white numbers & BRITISH RAILWAYS letters, polished smokebox hinges and handles etc) and would make a fine sight...

 

You could only do that to the A1 and V4 and remain authentic. By 1948 the P2 had ceased to exist.

 

As far as history goes i dont think its good for the V4 either, but as the preferred livery of the Locomotive builder, which is neither LNER or BR . it is entirely 'authentic' for all three...

 

Something mildly amusing about folks arguing what the 'authentic' livery is for a 21stC built locomotive with a good number of changes from the design of the 1930s ones.

 

Especially as it's an additional class member, not a replica of an original. They can paint it whatever colour they like!

 

I do think it will ne nice rebuilt as a Thompson A2/2 once they realise....

 

Said it before, paint one side in one livery, the other in another...........

 

I suggested an LNWR Claughton as a loco I would like to see a new build of, and a reply to the effect of "why recreate a long scrapped and not very successful LNWR design" was posted. To which I replied "why recreate a long scrapped and not very successful LNER design"
