And previously a Carnforth engine for a while I think. See Six Bells 6/8/62. Quite a few noteworthy locos in the 4569x ten.

My still from the same side at Herne Hill - looks like something fell off en route! A first - a loco changing number on its own?!

Not really a first - the K1 achieved this in 2004 while returning to Grosmont from that year's West Highland photo charter as seen here 04-10-31 4 62015 Grosmont copy.jpg

The intended number is seen in the next photo 04-10-31 5 62012 Grosmont copy.jpg

I'm sure that other sticky numbers have come adrift as well

I guessed it must have happened before, but I couldn't recall. A thought occurs - the nameplates and smokebox door numbers - are they cast metal or plastic? In any case, there must be a substantial cost in changing an identity like this (or were the nameplates for '45606' preserved anyway and just attached for the day?). BTW - a fine shot at Fort William yard - an area very close to my heart.

They tend to be cast metal, Procast is certainly one of the leaders in this area, but often wooden replicas are also used.

While the metal versions obviously cost more than the wood versions that can be picked up as a kit these days, they are certainly still good value when you consider that they can remain on a locomotive indefinitely if the owner chooses so. Quite a lot of engines today are actually running around with these replica cast metal plates as opposed to the BR made versions.

Ironically, the cabside renumbering can be the more costly endeavour. Depending on your method of application, it can range from a rub down and paint/transfers over the specific numbers or a piece of fablon attached with some sort of light gel (e.g vaseline). The cost issue here is with painting, you're committed to a long term renumbering. The temporary renumbering have the issue of being just that, temporary, and so the methods of fixing often fail and you get the situations above where the intended numbering ends up in the cess! If you've paid a pretty penny for the fablon, and transfers onto it (have a look at full size Fox Transfers for example), it can start becoming expensive.....

My short video at Herne Hill. I had intended to combine this and the 'Golden Arrow' steam into one video, but...

I believe it is a Procast one. When they have finished with it they will possibly use it as a prize in an on train raffle. The normal top prize is a replica 45596 number plate and that's very popular.

Was able to catch this tour in a couple of spots on the coast, firstly at Seasalter and then by the cliffs at Capel le Ferne.

And even more tardy, but since they are of far better quality than my contribution to the Medway Valley Pullman thread, a brace of shots taken just before the top of Keycol Hill / Bobbing Bank. Going slow with 2 pairs of 375s and a 395 ahead of it.
