I am sure there are a lot of locos in the collection we would all like to see working again both of the above would be welcome the only place I know that they could fit would be the WHR due to there height.

On a more personal note It is a pity that the rebuilding of the L&BR hasn't taken this into account and where new bridges need to be constructed a bigger envelope could be used instead. As for any existing bridges I am sure that a civil engineering solution could be found (underpinning?) or like they do for those houses in London that have a basement Gym built at a later date.

I think you may need to report to the authenticity debate on the SVR thread...

Underpinning, what they are doing for hyper-rich people's cellars and what needs doing to increase dimensions/axle-loads on the L&B are all different things. The one thing they do share is cost.

One "good" thing about the L&B is that there isn't much left (apart from the viaduct, which is going to be the practical limit), so as you will probably need to rebuild most of the bridges after 80 years of disuse, you can probably at least get them up to a given standard right now. But it's all money.

There is more of it civil engineering wise left than most people think, but like the WHR if a planning and a civil engineering review was carried out now and factored into the rebuilding, it won't be a problem. But I would like to get this tread back to the locos.

    Thanks

I don't know how much thought has been put in, but surely passenger projections for a fully reopened line would indicate either basically every trip being double-headed the need for more powerful locomotives, or double heading of the majority of services.

Although, the NG6s in the VOR collection have a slightly greater tractive effort than L&B tank, and aren't as wide... One of those would look fab puffing through Exmore.

Well now you can see the problem I have, I don't want to take anything away from what the L&BR means to everyone, but I just to add to it, if by having a few Non L&BR locos in the fleet means we get a few more people to come and have a ride behind a different loco so be it, also having different locos means they can go out to other railways for Gala's that would be great as well.

As most of you guys know, the L&BR has relied on the FR to supply a loco for the past few Autumn galas, but there are just so many you can have from one railway, I would love to be in the position to have something else other than LYN to go to North Wales for a time.

It was mentioned earlier that Thomas Edmonson had been sold, as it turns out she has gone to Germany to the Frankfurter Feldbahn, Museum.

The reason for the sale was she was not suitable for the longer South Tynedale Railway.

I think if you're thinning out the collection you're probably not going to start with Lawleys and Gwalior Pacfics. So you might be getting a bit carried away there.

To be honest, I think those locos will find a home on the Vale of Rheidol anyway, may be some of the smaller stuff might required another home or they could be swapped, who knows?

No doubt in time we shall find out, just keep an eye open at any of the ports for it going overseas or back home.

If you have a couple of each, might you think about letting 1/2 go? And put the money into doing whatever - cosmetic or full restoration - of the other? Why keep two identical engines for a museum?

I would not be too surprised that the next loco from the collection will be on par with the V of R 2-6-2T may be a Bagnall 0-4-4T, either way they still have more than enough locos to restore and I would guess that some railways may find themselves in a position (at some point) to take on a collection X restoration job.

But.... do you mean the next loco to be sold or restored? If "restored", do you mean cosmetically, or to running order? If you are talking about selling, I'm surprised that you have singled out "a Bagnall 0-4-4T" in this way, afaik there is only one, so why get rid of a sole example?

I don't think of a moment that they will sell any more unless a deal can be made with another Charity holding the same values, As I see it most UK 2ft gauge lines have more than enough locos to kept there workshop busy for the next ten years so I don't see any of them going anywhere soon.

Personally I think the Bagnall will be the next to be restored to full working order for use on the Vof R as it has the same sort of size to the 2-6-2T's.

As much as I would like to see one of the pacifics up and running, but all the time you have a Garrett working the is very little point in having two big locos available, the only time I can see that happening is when the Garratt goes out of Boiler ticket.

Are the 'pacifics' ex-DHR ? If so, I thought they were designed for the "plains section" i.e. the flat bit, now regauged.

    Edited to read DHR

Sadly not ex Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, both of those are now stuffed and mounted in Indian never to turn a wheel again, a few years agos it was discussed if it would be worth building a new version of the C class 4-6-2 Tender loco for the UK tourist railways, but I think it was felt to be too expensive then.

I think you mean the Gwalior pair.

Just need to win the euro lottery and then anything is possible.

Cheers. Had only seen reference to 'Indian Pacifics' and clean forgot about the Gwalior examples.

Can't say I'm unduly surprised adding a third D&H example isn't' seen favourably. As delightful as they are, not exactly a loco to flog on heavy tourist trains up long 1:40/1:50 gradients.

The UK debut I'm really looking forward to is NG15 No.134 on the WHR. :)
