Depending on any change of wind, the IOWSR could find itself with a third Ivatt tank!

I'm curious as to why it wouldn't apply to the mid-platform crossover at Cambridge?
The new crosover from the south end of platform 1 at Redhill across to platform 0 might be OK, because of the curved platform end, although the other end of the crosover is just into Platform 0.

If it does apply at locations such as Cambridge then it would appear in the STN as a "Prohibit" for the locos concerned. Plenty of station platforms are prohibited to steam locos due to clearence issues. This ruleing permits the use of platforms with crossovers between the platform faces provided the crossovers are not used.

Either that or 41312 gets an unscheduled boiler wash out,

I can imagine the phone call, " Hello Bluebell, MHR, here, has one of our engines just turned up Can you send it back, " Hello, any one there, "

As was said, then, it's generally the use of such crossovers, rather than the platform itself, that's prohibited, which makes sense.

Looking at discussion on the GWS Facebook page where people have raised concerns regarding the finish of the locomotive being released to the MHR, the suggestion from those at Didcot is this was because the MHR were so desperate for her to be delivered that winter maintenance had to be rushed through and a planned repaint could not be completed.

    Don't shoot the messenger.

And I'm sure those in charge at Ropley HQ greatly appreciate what the GWS have done by allowing LoL to attend & assist the steam illuminations. Clearly some at Ropley aren't of the same mindset looking at some posts on here & other social media platforms. Quite embarrassing really if those comments are being made/posted by MHR volunteers.

Again who knows, I also noted in the comments on the GWS thread that there seemed to be pretty strong rebuttals also being made about the mechanical condition/ability of said locomotive, comments regarding condition and ability that have also been raised rater stridently from volunteers at other railway who have previously hosted her on this thread?

A repaint after three and a half years in traffic? And for a lot of that time it was in the shed at Didcot due to lockdowns.

I think it's more because it looks a bit of a state.

If the preparation isn't correct, any paint job will very quickly start to peal, and of course, water gets into the metal, and rust begins to form, done properly a good quality finish, should have lasted a lot longer than 4-5 years,

A loco that looks a bit of a state, but does the job, is better than no loco at all.
For a whole bunch of reasons.

There's been talk that some of the paint damage was caused by running with ovoids during the summer which created a lot more hot cinders being ejected from the chimney. I don't know how you prove/disprove this.

You could see if other locos that ran extensively on ovoids had a similar issue …

In the dark will it really matter if the paint isn't perfect?
