What great news!!! Thanks truly are owed to the Rampton Trust for.keeping these two safe from the bonfires, way back when. Are these wooden or metal framed carriages?

Somewhere down the line, Cale is going to have a decent authentic ex-MNR train to demonstrate. :)

I'd heard this was on the cards for a while now. Glad to see it all confirmed. A Manx Northern train behind 14 or 15 will be a great addition.

I keep forgetting about No.14. In order to preserve the possibility of a nice surprise sometime, whenever, I'm going to try and forget about it again! :)

Have to confess, I've looked at the news from the railway over the past few years and gone back and forth through the surviving stock lists, to see how they'd cope with a very nice problem to have, but never dared hope these two would find their way home.

I was told some time ago that a deal was in the offering for No 14 but my understanding was it broke down due to the asbestos that is still on the loco, but I could be wrong on this, I think there was some photos of it on Facebook a while back as it and a coach are under tarpaulins at the same location, they are in the same condition as they left the railway and have not been touched.

It's currently in a million billion pieces in Cumbria being rebuilt. The coach has also been restored and done a few trips on the railway even if it's not in service yet.

    Yes .... I do .... very much. :)

Amidst so many great images, one caption sort of stood out "A quiet moment at Ramsey". Unfortunately, I think Ramsey had little but "quiet moments", certainly post-WWI.

I'm with the peeps who commented that the Douglas Ramsey Express service must've gone like the clappers and certainly the ride on light diamond framed bogies would've been 'interesting' in places. Yonks back, I recall a comment the BP locos were capable of reaching 45mph. Perhaps that express was when the top speed was discovered?

The Ramsey Express (Cock O’The North) was timetabled at just over an hour, to compete with the Manx Electric. The fastest stretch for the service trains, and depending on the driver, will have been from Ramsey out to Sulby Bridge, which is a long straight section. After that, stops and shunting would slow the pace somewhat. The other section where time could have been made up was from Ballaquine (after the Glen Mooar viaduct) into St.Johns when both St.Germains and Peel Road were classified as request stops, and you didn’t have a request :) it was all downhill.
During this years Transport Festival driver Arthur (AJ) Caine was remembered with a headboard in his name on loco No11. AJ was known to the other crews as “The Rocker” due to his fondness of speed. We were kindly sent some info detailing a special train of ten carriages with a banking engine as far as Kirk Michael, and stops at Michael and St. John’s, and restrictions in place in one section, that AJ took from Ramsey to Douglas in an hour and five minutes!
Loco No8 Fenella was often referred to as “The Racehorse” as its regular crew in to 50’s and 60’s used to get a good turn of speed from her on the North run.

Although Caledonia would not have been one of the duellists in the race out of Douglas in real life :) 733EEFEB-11D3-44CB-B73F-577E6C39C0F9.jpeg
