What! Do you actually believe that this site and social media influence that sort of decision?

I have heard of no complaints via my wife who is on Swanage Facebook.
However not sure where you thought the loco was as there are no industrial units (just back gardens) and the other side of the line is the public King George's Field that includes the skate park.
When all is said and done disregarding the clag, the smell was way better than that that is generated by the flood defenses in Swan Brook which much of the summer smells like a 1960's French toilet. Some dog walker wrote to the local rag complaining about it as it impacted on her dog walk, try living with it dear when it is across the road from your house.

A bit of good news for the railway! A ton of work went into this and congratulations to the team who made it happen.

On 6th October 2022, The Arts Council England confirmed that the Swanage Railway Museum at Corfe Castle had been awarded Full Accreditation to the scheme they manage and that sets nationally agreed standards for UK Museums to ensure sustainability, focused and trusted collections that inspire confidence in the public and funding and governing bodies.

The loco seems to be in the stabling sidings alongside the running line leaving Swanage station. In the picture the buildings immediately behind the locomotive are the town council yard and the business units of Kings Court (the nearest houses in that direction are on the opposite side of Kings Road - and having lived on Court Road and having friends with properties along Kings Road it was very unusual to find any smoke drifting in that direction from these sidings), whilst in the direction the wind was blowing the nearest housing is across both King Georges and Forres Playing Fields.

Separately, I do remember receiving complaints about diesel exhaust from properties further east along Kings Road (nearly opposite the parish church). Given that these were on cold days when there were no trains (even engineering trains) running, further investigation led to the culprit being buses being cold-started in the Wilts and Dorset garage.

I recall it. An operating notice followed a few days later to prevent a repetition, with diesel locos stopping short of the stop blocks.

I think the Class 50 Alliance's decision to fit preheaters had much to do with reducing engine wear.

More to point ,exactly what connection, apart from NSE does this obsolete diesel have to do with Heritage in Swanage. Never ran on the Branch operationally, All the whataboutery about various other emissions in the Swanage area do not hide the impression that,
to the not committed this is something that should not be happening. HR or not! Does this locos liabilities outweigh its assets?

Liabilities? Get a grip, while it’s true it never ran on the branch in BR days it’s a fine loco which Paul Spracken has spent vast amounts of his cash on along with the nearly complete 50021.

Paul if you read this forum, please ignore these comments as the rest of us appreciate the huge efforts and financial outlay you have committed to this pair of class 50’s.

Also I’ll add that obviously a vac is so obsolete that GBRF have two on long term hire from the class 50 alliance for work on the national network precisely because the reality is they are far from obsolete.

Although not native to the Swanage branch in particular, they help fulfil one of the charitable aims of the Swanage Railway Trust:
'The Swanage Railway Trust, a registered charity, exists to preserve the heritage of the railways of southern England' (SRT website)

Having run regularly on the South-western mainline to Salisbury and Exeter (well within an hours drive of Purbeck) they have local relevance. In many ways, it has more 'heritage' credentials that some suggestion that have been made for the Swanage to Wareham service and, as a class that is still registered (and used by commercial companies) on the mainline, has immense practical potential.
However, the more pressing reason (I suspect) would be the practical necessity to have sufficient, suitable standby diesel traction for use in running services - as has been the case.

Therefore, the presence of a Class 50 fulfils two objectives: one, the charitable educational objective of the SRT, and the second (and probably more relevant!) the practical operational opportunity its presence gives to SRCL.

I thought the reason for it’s stay at Swanage was for running in and testing prior to being mainline registered. So only a fairly temporary arrangement. The two 33s being sufficient to cover the need for standby diesel traction.

guess provides a small income to the SR and will feature in the Winter warm up and next year's diesel gala?.
When the 2 class 50s are "run in" they may go to another depot such as Southall, Camforth, Stewarts Lane, Eastleigh to get mainline railtour work?

What utter utter drivel you post.
What connection do things like gift shops or your favourite Birds Nest Cafe have to do with heritage in Swanage?

A few from the last week of the Christmas services.
Manston on shed on the 20th looking great in its "in service" look. Many thanks to SLL for letting it run like this.
Manston approaching at Swanage with the return first lights service on the 20th.
The first lights service leaving Swanage on the 22nd
Manston arriving back at Swanage with the first lights service on the 22nd
The final lights train approaching the nicely decorated Herston Halt on the 23rd
Lighting up the engineers train at Herston on the 23rd
And purely because it was marketed as "Steam and Lights" an image of said feature.

I hate to post this christmas eve however . I think we are all fairly tired with your non stop war of words on every aspect of the Swanage Railway, which even in a festive season you continue finding fault with pretty much everything . As you think to 2023 any chance of a resolution for immediate action to be, to move on somewhere else and take your tirade with you , or failing that try and find something positive to say

Can someone be banned for just being bloody stupid though?
Look I really think our friend in the colonies is a right PITA, much as I don’t agree with him I will say he’s entitled to his opinion, if he wants to keep making himself look an idiot then that’s his decision.

Those of us who live in the real world (and without access to a 1981 share prospectus) can try our best to help and support those in the heritage community without winding ourselves up about Doubting Thomas’s like him.
    Merry Christmas.

I agree with @Matt37401 There are plenty of posters who, when you see they have written something, your heart sinks and you realise you’re about to spend two minutes of your life you’ll never get back. But that’s not the same as saying they should be banned provided what they wrote basically remains on-topic and civil. As an individual poster, your options are basically put them on ignore (which some people use, but personally I don’t); try to argue the toss (dininishing returns after a while); speed read just in case there's a nugget of wisdom or slip over completely and find the next interesting post. There’s plenty of posters where I tend towards the latter two, but for whom I wouldn’t advocate a ban.

I am also in agreement with @Matt37401. @oliversbest is clearly an old man, living abroad, who has lost touch with the realities of HR life in the UK. He isn't a troll in the sense that he isn't deliberately trying to wind people up. He seems to genuinely think that he is right and also seems to think that he is being funny. He also seems to be incapable of engaging in sensible discussions with people and just keeps restating his views. The sort of person that you really wouldn't want to be down the pub with. All rather sad really. Best just to ignore him and not try to respond to his posts. But I wouldn't advocate banning him.
