Got a few shots of this tour today, as I am in Devon.
Whilst my laptop can capture and edit HDV it's telling me it going to take over an hour to render it ](*,) I'll try in the morning 8-[
Turned into a bit of a D1015 fest - lots of cursing on Tigley bridge - no names, no packdrill. [-X

I'm going to watch everybody's videos now.

    Hey folks

was a good run despite the problems... the Western driver took great delight in holding the horn down whilst we went full bore through Newton Abbott on the way back.... 40ish late departure from Cornwall was 5 mins early back at Paddington.

Day of interesting things..... we reversed into Tiverton loop at wter stop, presumably the points had failed.......

Interesting to see Cromwell has had through piping fitted now, in a way that it appears it can be unscrewed when not necessary so it leaves no visible evidence, unlike 45231 etcs through piping. Although when led by 1015 would Cromwell not technically have been a swinger with only loco brakes? Assume that it wouldn't have been in cac mode and only one compressor for an air braked train? Nice to see some common sense allowed if so

Fantastic run over the sea wall, and I'm a Western convert after 1015's performance today.

The general consensus on the train was that Tangmere will carry on tomorrow.

Also big thanks to Bodmin and Wenford General Manager and crew who agreed to run a special after hours, it was worth the trip up the bank!

I hope that D1015 made up for some of the disappointment with Nunney. It was an enjoyable day out despite spending a little too much time at Newton Abbot and not enough in Cornwall. 70013 + 5029 were going well until the hot box on 5029's tender put a stop to proceedings.

The driver normally does do that, but didnt disappoint with an opening of the throttle as he entered the station though!!! =D>

  8. Well lets put it this way, my husband was a happy bunny, seeing D1015 +++ yesterday, and I got to call in and see my friends on the P&D so not all was lost. I'm hoping for wall to wall steam for tomorrow though!

Well what a day it was yesterday. Somehow we had a enjoyable day despite the problems. Real shame for the 5029, really bad run of events, sorry chaps.

Discussion at Plymouth was whether any water was taken. It didn’t appear that it was - which I believe meant D1015 was doing 95% of the work in Cornwall.

I think the day was made by the excellent Bodmin and Wenford team who kept the railway open for us. I’ve never been on the line before but what a super little railway. The sound of the Pannier plodding up the 1 in 40 was worth the trip alone! A boy sharing the window with my son said “look at that engine waddling from side to side”. I think it takes some skill and experience to get a loco up that line. Thanks for making our day.

Great pics and videos. Thanks to all. Just shows that a diesel on a steam tour doesn't necessarily spoil the show.
    Cheers

As long as it is a western or a deltic then I suppose us steamheads can make an exception but if an EWS box had been involved, it would been a no no for me.

  15. Hi Stu, long time! Sorry but FC is feeling a tad grumpy today and anything but steam doesn't make it for me (bigoted steam fan and all that!)

Hoping for much better sight tomorrow.

No water was taken. I heard that it was because we were put into a platform without a hydrant. As standard class was on the back of the train it was difficult to tell which loco(s) was doing the work after Plymouth.

Agreed, congratulations to the team on the BWR that made the effort to make sure we still got to Bodmin General despite the earlier difficulties. You can't beat a Pannier working hard!
