Does the corfe castle railway museum accreditation include the mining museum?

I have him on Ignore, which often results in my briefly wondering what several posts are about (which is the downside of the Ignore facility) until I realise that they are responding to another load of nonsense. I have regarded him as a troll inasmuch as he repeatedly provokes responses that achieve nothing except wasting time. Whether he really intends to waste people's time or genuinely believes every word that he writes, the result is much the same. If the Ignore facility doesn't appeal, use one of Tom's alternative solutions.
Anyway, don't respond, because that just wastes your time and the time of the rest of us who see your response and at least start to read it.

Oliversbest does make occasional pertinent points. Eg as to the value of keeping coaches undercover when not being used.

But some of his other points: such as quoting selected phrases from 40+ year old documents that have been superseded many times since, are just sad ranting.

I tend to the view that everyone has a point of view. Of course some people don’t have an off switch which is unfortunate.

Oliversbest has a pov about the Swanage which is probably outmoded, but far from unique. The reasons for which it was saved have little to do with the realities of the modern SR, but to my way of thinking they have never been fully and honestly killed off. As a result the line has been led in a direction (Wareham) that has used a lot of public money to create the opportunity for the railway to lose money operating a service that few in fact want. (Look at the revenues and costs of the trial service) and talk to staff who are genuinely nervous about the demands the longer trial service will place upon the line.

The Wareham service is a millstone, but one I think which very many people in the supporting functions of the SR probably still support, particularly dare I say it, those of a certain generation.

    Excellent news about the museum.

    Moderator note -

Just a quick message to ask that we now leave this discussion where it is. The points raised have been noted and acted upon so now is a good point to draw a line in the sand and move on by getting back on topic which in this case is about the Swanage railway.

Your cooperation is appreciated - thank you.

Agreed Pete, We are digressing from that most important of questions, and that’s what livery is 563 going to wear upon its return to return to traffic… :)

Let's spoil the fun of a livery debate (ooh! what a spoilsport!) and look at the 563 group's Faceache page at https://www.facebook.com/SRT563LG/

Looking at the SR website the Sandbanks ferry is still out of action till Feb, the Winter Explorer Diesel Service starts tomorrow with Adult Return a good price at £10.00. Sadly the DMU does not go to Wareham to link with SWR to help take some traffic which would have used the ferry.
From the last SR Magazine p3 the SR is still hoping to run the Wareham service in 2023. Now that the SWR service is back to 2 trains an hour hopefully will be a success and bring more people to the steam railway, walking, biking, Corfe Castle and the seaside, which people (and a lot will be young) do want (there is another thread to discuss further).

I notice on Railadvent there is a good update on the 563 locomotive.

Still needs more money, but looks like it will be ready in 6 months time and should also attract people to the Swanage railway.
They have been checking the LSWR livery lining colours.
Some supporters may not like it as it is not a 50s BR era, but still an earlier LSWR era important to the line.

I'm at a bit of a loss as to how a Wareham service would have taken some traffic which would have used the ferry. If you use the ferry you are either in a car, on foot or on the bus and your destination almost certainly either Swanage or Studland beach. If in a car, why would you park at Wareham where there is little convenient parking. If on foot your destination is likely to have been the beach but very unlikely in January or February and going to Wareham and then the train to Swanage still leaves you several miles short of Studland. If on the bus, then it is a simple matter to take an alternative bus route to Swanage.
Taking a train from Wareham to Swanage is not an alternative to using the Ferry for 99.9% of the people who'd use it.

I thought accreditation for the mining museum was immigrate after the new management took over? Is the mine tunnel still closed?

A large number of people on those buses board at Bournemouth station, having travelled by train from elsewhere. If there was the option to get the train all the way to Swanage, then many may do that instead of catching the bus (which uses the ferry).

Is it a simple matter to get an alternative bus to Swanage? Genuine question as I’m not aware of the bus routes. The alternative road route to Swanage is significantly longer than the ferry route.

At the moment every where has to be in survival mode, and that means not putting your railway in danger of closure because you tried to run before you could walk, Wareham, should be mothballed and put on the back burner, and only when recovery is certain, looked at again, you do not want to be running on NR at the moment, if it endangers your railway, If DCC want to see public rail services in 2023, , then let them fund it,
I will be totally honest, this year, no railway, can be assured of being here in 2024, its entirely possible that in the next 12 months will see a high profile railway go to the wall, even a well managed line, could suffer if it doesn't find ways to maximise income, whilst controlling its costs.

Part of me thinks its original livery, though a little touch up wouldn't go a-miss, would be perfect for such a grand ol' dame, but another part of me thinks it should be in a fictitious BR lined black livery as it would blend in with the other engines rather than stick out like a saw thumb.

Talking of tunnels, when i lived in Wareham as a youngster back in the 1960s there were rumours of a tunnel stretching from Corfe Castle to Wareham. It was built apparantly as an escape route from the the then occupied castle should it ever be needed.Did we look for possible entrances of this tunnel, yes we did.Did it exist i dont think so but who knows!.
