Any reason for using what looks like new rail?
Or is there no serviceable second hand rail available?

 

From the article linked in the picture post: "In parallel, the Trust negotiated with Network Rail to buy 3,600m of rails (1,800 linear metres of track) cascaded from the Northumberland Line Project renewal programme and which will deliver the plain line requirements of the site at a favourable price."

IT’S COMING HOME!
Tornado’s boiler has passed its hydraulic tests, and has now left DB Meiningen on its journey home to Darlington.

 

Thought the convention was really good and a thorough description of the difficulties of the last few years as a result of Covid. Great also to hear the support the A1SLT get when they are in Scotland. This helps ensure steam in Scotland outwith the Jacobite which is really good as there are a lot of great routes in Scotland as well as the Jacobite.

So when will 2007's boiler be delivered?

 

Why not sent Tornado's boiler to Loughborough so that it can be reunited with the frames?

 

Quite a lot of things in an overhaul are much easier to do while the boiler is removed - all the lubrication pipework, air and vacuum pipes, reassembling the middle engine etc. So it makes sense to only put the boiler back on the frames when you can no longer avoid doing so (i.e. all your remaining reassembly tasks can only be completed with the boiler situ). There's certainly no point doing it before you have to just for the sake of making the loco look more complete.

It is only at Darlington for a very short time, to be clad, and any other items that have been refurbished, attached.
Maybe when it is on site, it can be used to check for fit in the P2 frames, before it leaves????

Does anyone know when/why this pin was made?

I was given this for Christmas by someone who purchased it on ebay, and I'm unsure if it's a regular bit of delightful merchandisy tat or from one of the "clubs" that ran early on. It looks a bit like the P2 club ones they're doing now, and doesn't seem to be listed for sale on the manufacturer's website. Of course, could just be a discontinued design. Look familiar to anyone?

Exciting to hear that tour promoters want to build the Deen in to their 5-6 day programmes.
