It's good to think that the first Barry restoration to be completed since the 2020 lockdown looks so close to moving under its own power. Well done to all involved.

I do have a bit of a soft spot for 4110 as it was the most conveniently-situated Large Prairie for a photo when I visited Dai Woodham's scrapyard in 1974 - not that my photo is that wonderful as I was a teenager and didn't have a very good camera at the time. When the WSR bought it from the now defunct GWRPS of Southall, I therefore made a small contribution, even though I'm not a WSR member. While I was a lttle bit miffed when the WSR sold it on, I'm nonetheless pleased that it has a working future which looks as though it will begin in the not too distant future.

You might think differently if you banged your head going underneath one daily.

She looks amazing! Congratulations to all of the team involved. What a transformation compared to what she was just a few short years ago sitting on the seafront at Minehead.

Cracking job! What are the two lines on the chimney? They look like weld lines...
A very impressive rate of work has been kept up on this loco, what a contrast in how it looks now to how it looked a couple of years ago.

    Richard. :)

Just a wee bit cheeky to ask perhaps? Cranmore do a good job and deserve a proper reward,

Not as much as many contract overhauls, as it has been carried out by a volunteer workforce.

Not sure how much the DSR are paying, but presumably the cost is partially offset by the subsequent 3 year hire to the ESR. An arrangement that works well for all parties. 4110 gets overhauled far quicker than would otherwise have been the case, the overhaul is cheaper for the DSR, and the ESR gets use of another GWR tank for 3 years.

It's great to see some good news, in amongst all the dross.

    Congratulations.

A little bit of an inaccuracy to describe bad news merely as ''dross''. If only it were so then things would be less serious.. Well done indeed to Cranmore .

My interpretation of Rumpole’s statement and the use of the word dross was simply as a reference to all the rubbish posted on here, not a reference to bad news.

Very, very nice. (And I write as someone who has been inoculated against the Swindon disease!!)
The silent coast-past is always a test for me. Not all newly shopped locos pass. :(

Is this the 152nd Barry restoration, or have I miscounted. Always amazes me to see these things run again after a gap of 60-70 years. Nothing short of incredible.
