They are Isle of Man bogies. There has been a steady stream of them though Boston Lodge for refurbishment for several years now.

I really liked the sound Funkey Diesel made as it attacked the ski-slope (co-incidentally, the very image captured above). Listen to it and tell me it doesn't sound like some WWII fighter plane.

 

A comprehensive update on the current loco situation.

 

This together with two other videos reviewing 2022 and launching the next 10 year strategy, are superb viewing and hats off to the FR for being open, transparent and giving clear communication.

 

Russell has made its first trip between Pen Y Mount Junction and Porthmadog Harbour Station since 1937 today, in what appears to be a gauging run for the upcoming WHR 100 Celebrations next June.

Interesting to note that the dome has been moved to a more central position; makes sense given the gradients on the WHR and the need to work hard in both directions.

Having had the absolute pleasure of operating #17 at Sandstone a number of times, it makes a huge amount of sense when running backwards. She was very prone to lifting water if you weren’t careful, which also stopped the Vac ejector in its tracks, bringing you to a stand! Less than ideal.

Can’t wait to see 134 in full flight - I think 15’s are fantastic machines.

 

Is the repositioned dome on a length of new boiler barrel?

I find myself wondering & presumably the square patch on top along towards the firebox is to cover where the dome was moved from.
