With the low temperature and lack of wind, the puffs of steam once per revolution show very clearly.

Cool. Thanks everyone, it is as good now as in the 80/90’s. Didn’t know it was a prior look.

Hoping better luck for The Scot this week.

44932 Definitely ran over the Hellifield to Blackburn line southbound on the 22nd of May 2013. On the Fylde coast express from Carlisle to Blackpool. A rare early morning southbound working over the S&C that was. Looking at the settlecarlislesteam website, 2 fifteen guinea specials on the 7th and 11th of August 2013. Also used 44932 and 45231 double headed over the Hellifield to Blackburn line and S&C.

Thanks, good to see someone with a functioning brain. I had remembered the outing on the Lancastrian and mistakenly thought it was the last time over the line and just checked the date. No recollection of the Fylde Coast Express and inexcusably forgot all about the two double headers in August. I’m off to the naughty corner.

I had runs with 4767 on 11 and 12 with no problems. Alan some of the 5s are now allowed 65 mph which Ray Poole made full use of on a Worcester trip some years ago

As far as the CME's go is this relevant, as do WCRC actually regularly run charters with genny cars? I've been on many railtours with a genny but they have all been with Riviera stock.

We have a genny car, 6312, but it is air-braked only.

The general subject of diesels/heat etc, is getting rather tedious and, as usual, it's from the same old suspects; so, apart from saying, we don't do it unless we have to, can we just leave it at that?

Whilst I totally agree with you and despite my rather basic knowledge of of current railway operations I do agree that there are certain people don’t seem to realise that things have moved on from 1968.
Just because we used to send kids up chimneys or down pits should we do the same sort of things these days?

The first occasion that 44932 was turned out with its tender lettered was the Southport Visiter shuttles on 3rd November 1985. Following overhaul at WCRC it was paired with the tender intended for 45699 which had a new tank fitted. After its recent overhaul it has been re-united with its own tender that previously ran behind the Jubilee when it sported the red livery.

11th August 2013 44932 double headed with 45321 would be my guess. That was 44932's final appearance on the S&C before overhaul. I don't know if it did any other tours after that.

Correct Ian, the loco continued in traffic until August 2014 but no S&C tours after 11/8/2013.

By, you don't miss much Mike. That is indeed a youthful John Hynd who was firing that day. For those who don't know him he is still driving at Fort William and seems to have aged very little in the intervening 35+ years. Hair is a bit shorter these days, thats all.

I've posted this before in the railway & people section but that's John Hynd, extreme right. He was our driver that week, 1991.
