I suppose it comes down to the same as what i said earlier but got shot down by Stan the Great and Wonderful man or whatever he calls himself,

Why wasnt the engine throughly checked over back when the tubes were out? If it is a boiler fault then fair play not been able to test it.

Yet again it just shows no organisation in the society - So yes the engine is again missing out on work and the boiler ticket is ticking away again!

Maybe they should have booked tangmere to start with!

I do hope she gets fixed, she is one of the 'high profile' loco's I have not ridden behind and I have a day trip booked to ride behind her later in the year, which is now looking less likely, it would appear :smt088

Unfortunately an engine like this is being managed by people who believe 'ahh it's ok that' attitude is fine in railway preservation. Engines have to be tuned and then fine tuned. This is what Roy was all about! Very precise, no stone was un-turned. Which if he was still the boss, the engine would have had the jobs done, the paper work in place and the engine would have been in steam and have passed it's FTR today!!

    But never mind.

I wish the team all the best in 2009, they will need it!!

You are making unfounded suppositions here, we do not yet know the reason for failing the FTR, and yet you are asking why she was not thoroughly checked over when the tubes were out? How do you know if she was or wasn't, and why are you blaming the society with no facts, just wild assumptions. ](*,)

Because it would appear Yanky knows how to manage locomotive maintenance, as demonstrated in his post detailing the latest of Cheddleton MPD.

When you know how to do something yourself you are then able to identify faults with other people's methods, and the fact that 6201 has failed her FTR after nearly 8 months of repair work should surely set the alarm bells ringing!

O for gods sake!!! A steam engine is a steam engine, whether it has 4 wheels, 6 wheels or whatever! The principles are the same and theirs no excuse for a cock up like this after the amount of time out of traffic! If the plonkers who are now running her knew what they were doing then the engine would be going to Bristol in the morning!!!

    well said rich!!!

At the end of the day it doesnt matter whether it is a preserved line or the mainline all work sound be done to the same standard if you want to avoid failures etc.

Like wise boilers should be overhauled to the same standards no matter what work the engine is going to be doing!

Maybe not all railways take this attitude though?

So what chance a Green Princess Elizabeth.. I think everyone would forgive and forget all ill and peace would break out internationally and christmas would come early for the 6201 group.

If all the hints come true, it may be the last time for a decade that we have chance to see a Princess in Green.

Otherwise maybe its a case of waiting for regime change before a livery change, no regime lasts for ever.

    Who said ANYTHING about livery?

Some people will do anything to turn a discussion about livery. Unless you are a member of the owning group or paying for the paint you have absolutely no rights to dictate or cajole others to paint a locomotive any particular colour, and if you are a member of the group or paying for the paint then you wouldn't make comments on an internet forum.

It doesn't matter what the locomotive is, computer commentators (including me) can only wait and see. If I don't like it then we make our representations and cheques payable to the owners. End of.

Utter garbage. First up do you know why 6201 failed it's FTR exam? If you do then please enlighten us all, if you don't then put a sock in it. FTR exams can be failed on the most annoyingly small item that was behaving itself perfectly the day before the examination took place.

Damm right a steam engine can fail on the most annoying little niggle. All of this would have been proved, the engine would have run more than 10 yards and would be as fit as a fiddle when it came round to the FTR and would not have been stuck outside all Winter, even though 'Wogger' had promised it would be inside!.........

But yet again, nobody from the CLICK will speak out publicly.

6201 did not fail an FTR, it never had one, it was due to undertake one on Monday, Ian Rileys post on Sunday indicated it was not going on the Great Britain II, so it must have been pulled by the 6201 society themselves. Work going on at CHC visible from the train would indicate valve or cylinder problems.

Can I come and live in your little world please ? It sounds so magical, a place where everyone who works on steam engines can never make a mistake, and those that know otherwise are simply wrong and misinformed.

Seriously, lets look at the FACTS.

We were told 6201 would be kept undercover whilst at Crewe.
In 8 months that is yet to happen. FACT.

We were all promised that we would see 6201 in action on the Great Briton II following completion of repairs.
Following 8 months of work, she is unfit for duty. FACT

There is also the FACT that has been a serious change in the behind the scenes of 6201, leading to one very significant figure leaving the group, and the FACT that there appears to be a lot of support for him following his departure.

Now I have no involvement with 6201 personally. Only thing I have is that she was one of the first engines I ever saw when I was a kid and she is one of the most impressive locos to see operating on the mainline. However, reading through this thread there are clearly issues, which all need to be resolved before any of us see her run again.

When people try to inform us though of some of the problems, or voice their opinion on the situation, all they get is people like you shooting them down because they are not involved in the project, so they don't know what they are talking about. Well are you involved Stan ?

If not then why are you able to comment ? Is it because you are working on steam elsewhere and so have an understanding of what is involved to a certain point, which makes you able to form your own opinion ? Great, the same as the rest of us, including people like Bongo and Yanky (just to name 2 of the people you have taken issue with recently).

Sometimes though the truth isn't to our liking, and just because we don't like what's been said doesn't make it wrong.

are you sure of your facts ?

    really really sure

How do you know 6201 was promised to Gb2 and not RTC advertising in hope of availability

I've not seen a categoric posting of accom at Crewe

also why did LNWR get the work and not Riley & Son ?
