Once small problem - I don't do the lottery so they'll have a long wait. :)

The history of the Birdcage Brake is fascinating.

In my original post I didnt read the £250K limit - so my largesse might be a bit less, however for a 'money no object' project what about running steam on the main line with loco's that otherwise would not be able to 'pay their way' for example, Schools, T9, D49, Standard Tanks of various sorts, S15's etc?

A building to get all those (or as much as the money goes to) GWR coaches on the WSR under cover. If any left over a chippy shop for them as well.

I'd like at least one, and ideally 4 pairs of articulated Coronation carriages to go with the Beavertail. Not sure I'd get one for £250k though so perhaps would need to win the Euro millions and commit at least two extra zeros to the budget. I'm sure I'd be able to run them around the national network without any problems whatsoever and probably even make tons of profit from them… ;)

Top-and-tail them with a Mogul and Crompton between Swanage and Salisbury, and when the money rolls in use it to fund the overhaul of a Merchant Navy: that plan must be sound, I’ve heard it loads of times …

Either an apprentice fund, or as a collateral for credit at lower rates than otherwise possible. Ok, there is risk in that, but if managed carefully, it can help a lot of projects.

Or just for hiring the TT course for the day...

I like the TT idea. And do it on one of the classic Honda sixes.

    It's only 250k...
Plus, the odds of me getting round on my own racebike that I know inside-out are low enough...

I was marshalling the manx the year of the infamous vincent owners club parade lap (2 helicopter calls and about 6 serious crashes). Never have I seen so many (knowing full well it's their only chance) parading the bejazus out of their bikes. I enjoyed it, but I didn't have to sweep anything up where I was...

I didn't read that bit, my K2 new build would require just a bit more than that.

£250k doesn’t scratch the surface on most things, but I would give it to the Urie Locomotive Society as it would complete 499 and secure 506 and that’s a group that makes a little go a very long way.

Well Didcot estimate that it'll take £180K to rebuild the Dreadnought, so I'd be happy to cough up for that . Any left-overs to go towards Firefly's overhaul.

I would spend my £250,000 on rescuing rolling stock from a closing heritage line. Now I wonder which will one will be the first to close?

Having answered once already I have now seen someone saying about running locos on the mainline that wouldn't normally and have a second idea (greedy). I've always fancied a Plandampf on the Wherry and Bittern lines in Norfolk....Could I make that happen and get the B12 on it for £250k? Probably not but I love the idea
