Appleby is a lovely town, castle, river, shops, several pubs etc, Far nicer than Carlisle in my opinion. Most steam specials used to stop there a few years ago for a couple of hours, we even had run pasts occasionally. Southbound, the train would reverse onto the Warcop branch, so as not to block the main line. Those who didn't fancy the walk down (and back up) the hill adjourned to the Midland next to the station. Btw, it was a Marstons house, so i guess their beer was brought by train from the brewery in Burton on Trent, courtesy of the Midland railway. I wonder if this was the furthest north one could purchase their delicious ales?

Avoiding Carlisle seems like an excellent plan to me!

60mph max would suggest a Black Five.

Quite right. I typed this before thinking.
Haven't had a very good couple of weeks to be honest, my mind is a bit all over the place at the moment. Apologies for this slip up.

When did that change, as I'm almost certain I've previously seen steam shown on RTT at 75 max?

I think DB steam paths show as 75mph. Its a shame there's not more 75mph timed paths.

I think all DB locos ate 75 locos whereas not all WC locos are
Not that this is the reason for the 60 mph pathing.

    I think it's only the Black 5 that's 60.

Isn't the reason that if you are going over Shap, for example, you want a 60mph path with a max permitted speed of 75? With one or two mins slipped into the schedule here and there, that produces a schedule which is realistic between Carnforth and Carlisle even if some of the intermediate timings are not (eg lose 7 mins up to Shap, gain 7mins down to Carlisle). Whereas a 75mph schedule, dream on.

And the S&C is a 60mph limit for steam anyway?
