    I think the "nah it will probably shut down'' - post has been removed. When planning was applied for a while back there were many objections from people who thought the pub was shutting who clearly hadn't looked at the documents submitted.

    I understood it that whole site was 10 acres at one time. It will be interesting to see if we need that as well in the future. Good luck with getting through the minefield of running a pub.

    Not just PR, but a pub is the heart of a community, and while the community is rather sparse around Blackmoor, the OSHI is a perfect opportunity for the railway to build its standing locally, and prove its commitment to Exmoor. It won't be easy, as Martin and Lynn will be a hard act to follow, but the new GM is a local businessman with over 20 years of experience in hospitality, so I have every hope that
    A) nothing will change
    B) Everything will be better
    C) I get to sample the beers and meals again soon! :)

    Just a thought,

    Of the nine original (pre-1935) stations (plus Pilton) on the L&B, between them, the L&B and EA now own six. That is something to contemplate with quiet satisfaction...

    I am sure that will be 10 if they wanted it to happen as for both Lynton and Barnstaple I can't see either of those being available or accessible. Realistically we need to think of having new terminals at each end.

    You mean , like has always been the plan , the very open and public plan about a new terminus at lynton , closer to town and a terminus at pilton in the car park as the railway will never get back to the orginal barnstaple Station.

    Although this is immaterial now it wasn't to do with people thinking the pub was shutting, it was presented as a forced take over of the pub by the railway, when the initial planning that has just expired was put in so was planning for this part of the line down to Wistlandpound, but because this is comes under NDC it only lasted for 3 years, the building of bridges 54 and 55 secured the planning of the line but the planning for the station area expired, this was reapplied for in late 2019 and is what seems to have caused the issue with over 600 letters of representation both for but many against and a decision never reached

    This is the confusing bit, its promoted as the Lynton and Barnstaple Blackmoor Company, all but one of its directors are either Trustees or CIC directors of the railway, the other ,a representative of the B class shareholders, the L&BR Trust hold X amount of A class shares (controlling shares)yet it has been stated in earlier posts that this is a stand alone company so if there are any profits after running costs are deducted / loans, mortgages paid/ dividends paid will there be any money to be earned by the railway or will they actually even be entitled to any, as i understand it the LBBC has purchased the pub but the L&BR Trust has purchased the land for the running line and new station, the Trust chairman stated at the members forum in November that the Trust would be supplying a loan a to the LBBC and that there would be no risk to the railway itself

    I say "Well Done" on securing OSHI.
    I'm sure it will prove a real "game- changer" in the perception of some regarding the prospects of a full (nearly) length L & B. Regarding Meatmans concerns, I'm sure that the L&B will benefit in many ways from the LBBC. If the Trust actually has shares in the LBBC, and they generate a dividend, then there is a direct benefit.
    Slowly but surely progress on the L & B is being made - so again, Well Done to ALL concerned.

    It is standard practice for a company to pay shareholders a dividend from the profits made. As such, I’m unsure why there is such concern about the rights of the Trust as a controlling shareholder to receive such payments if there are the profits to sustain them.

    I, for one, am very much looking forward to having a pint or two (in the not too distant future) in a pub that I am a shareholder of, and which will no doubt become the focal point of the future L&B (I have no visibility of any plans for the OSHI or the L&B).

    I think you are right about Blackmoor becoming the center of operations, but before we get too excited, we have a lot of money to raise to make the next stage happen and unless a fairy godmother happens to be in contact it will be down to everyone to contribute to that total, this is going to be expensive so expect to be thinking in terms of tens of millions.

    This is incredible news - both as a (hopefully) reassuring PR exercise for the railway, but as a key door unlocked for the next phase. Though there may be challenges (looking at you Twitchen Lane and the reservoir) for the first time the route through to Bratton Fleming seems on the table
