Oh, I suppose that outcome was probably inevitable.

I hope 19B goes to someone / somewhere that appreciates her !

I know there was some interest a while ago in getting 19B back to India, it would be a shame but I could see it happening. Sure Statfold will be interested, along with others.

With 19B, the replica Darj coaches and 740 up for sale from Tyndale, a new Indian-themed mountain steam railway could be set up pretty easily... where did I put that scratchcard I got for my birthday....

If it doesn't all end up at Statfold , I, for one, will be astonished!

I'm surprised it's all going for auction, I'd have thought private buyers could have been found without the need to involve auctioneers and their associated costs.

Or that he might have made some stipulation in his will?

Exactly, it would be sold privately - going to auction makes it much more of a free-for-all.

Well none of us know what has or hasn't been written down. It's very sad, both the death and the (inevitable) disposal of the railway - I used to live within earshot.

However, being hard headed for a moment, it's only like a very much larger scale house clearance. My wife is under strict instructions not to let my (large) model railway collection anywhere near the various big name brands who take such things off widows' hands. Because she'll be ripped off and she's got no idea herself what things are worth.

Not saying for a hint of a moment that anyone, especially not anyone mentioned in this thread, would do such a thing, but if you're suddenly alone and you've got a load of valuable-but-don't-know-how-valuable 'stuff' to be rid of, you can see why an auction would be attractive.

I enjoyed it when it was running, it was a magical experience, and an auction seems to me to be the best way to realise the value of everything. I'm interested to see how it all goes on the day.

I suspect that euromillions ticket sales will rise appreciably in the coming weeks!

Personally given the influence of the Festiniog on the Indian Hill railways and close connections between Adrian and the railway. I'd hope it ends up in North Wales rather than Tamworth. Of course that would require someone dipping deep into their pockets.

Hope nobody has any silly ideas like sending it back to India. I'm not sure they'd know what to do with one with a full set of valve events.

I have been in contact with the Darjeeling group and I know that there are members who would jump at the chance to own this, but as much as it would be a cool thing to have in the back garden. I do suspect there will be a lot of money needed to make sure it is fit to run on the likes of the WHR / L&BR, I am not sure if it can fit on the FR as it stands and I am sure some one will tell if it can.

Would I try to buy it if a won the lottery? Why not. Where would I run it? I haven't a clue right now. But I would expect that a group from the WHR will try to raise the money to add it to that line's collection.

As a foot note Adrian had a replica Sandy River coach built I wouldn't mine just that in Devon to go with LYN.

Are you suggesting that the chaps at Siliguri don't know how to use a hammer?
