Hello thought it would be helpful to start a thread as this tour is taking place.

Been on 2 of these, one with Tornado, calling them a "flyer", is mis-selling!!!!
Nearly 6 hours to Edinburgh from Newcastle is a joke, due to track availability and paths being congested.
Good Luck to those who go, Edinburgh Stagger, may be a better name!!!!

I wouldn't call four and a quarter nearly six hours hours. Slow it might have been but it wasn't that slow. I guess that you dont book on a train like this if you are in a hurry and as far as I could tell those that did book seemed to have enjoyed their day out.

I also have done one of these, very enjoyable day out it was too. Considerable amount of 70mph+ running and great scenery. Also over 400 miles of steam, which is not to be sniffed at these days. Fact of the matter is 75mph is a fair bit slower than pretty much everything else on this section of track, so really it should be celebrated a path can be found at all.
Would do another, but requires 2 nights in York which adds considerably to the costs.

When you know what is possible with a Tornado run south, it makes the current situation a bit sad really.
We got on in Durham at 7.45am, last time, and got into Edinburgh at 1.15am, so 6 is a stretch.
Might have gone over to Carlisle, up to Carstairs to Edinburgh a bit quicker!!!!

Well one man's sadness is another man's delight;). We are talking about doing the journey with steam in the year 2023, not 1963, after all and I'm quite happy with that no matter how long it takes. Fortunately enough passengers on the train thought the same.

Yes moving with the times and judging by the number of passengers on board it was a very popular day out.It must have been great to see the north--east coast in such splendour travelling at appreciative speed.

It certainly was Henry, we had a great trip. It did start to become a bit of drag after Newcastle on the return. Took some videos along the NE coast, certainly trumps the sea wall in Devon.

A few snippets from Saturday with the highlights being the passage over the Royal Border Bridge and the glorious coastal views.
