How much track is there ? Engine and track would make a good starting package for the L&B West, no ? :D

Was a wonderful set up only visited last year and the owner was extremely generous and kind, a true gentleman.
Very sad it has to end. Rekindled my interest in narrow gauges following an expedition many yeat ago to Dingle as my first trip abroad. Never yet done the real Darjeeling, but hope to one day.
I felt very happy to have had the privilege to see it

Welcome to the darkside that has already been suggested but the reply was we are not the Indian sub continent railway, we are the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway. well sometimes you can't help some people, what a missed marketing opportunity for the L&BR.

It was just under 1 mile of track :Banghead::Banghead::Banghead::Banghead::Banghead:

I wonder what weight the rail is - interesting that the auctioneers don't know enough about railways to state this (also they think a train is a locomotive...)

Unless he has relayed it since the photos have been taken, something tells me it is around the 30 /35 lb rail size as it dose not look that heavy, I think any L&BR/ FR size loco might have problems running on that size of rail now, but if it came as part of the package, I am sure some one will buy it off of you. Such as a railway contractor?

    It's a gem.
Who built this resplica, where and when?
Is the coach not run at Statfold for loading gauge clearance reasons?
So if it will not fit on lines built originally for "two foot gauge" ,how about nominees for narrow gauge lines on standard gauge formations.,

It was built by the FR at Boston Lodge, I think.

The two Darj coaches and the parlour car were all built at Boston Lodge. They had their profile altered slightly from the originals so they fit the FR loading gauge.

Does it get used much at Statfold? Wouldn't have thought they have many loading gauge issues, other than possibly the radii of corners. It seems like an oddity for their use and might see more use at the L & B, for example, when it grows.

In an American model Railroad magazine I have the Sandy River and Rangeley Lake Parlor cars were 45ft 11ins (plus couplers) long, 6ft 7ins wide and 10ft 3 1/2 inches tall. compared to an L&BR coach which was
Length over buffer beams 35ft 2ins, width over body 6ft and height 8ft 7ins.

So a bit bigger all round, but if 'Carrabasset' was built to fit the FR loading gauge which is smaller than the L&BR she might look at home on the L&BR.

I believe Carrabasset fits just fine, it is just of limited capacity and of such finery that using it in general service could result in damage. I think it still gets used on private hires, and Adrian Shooter was riding in it when the B class visited Statfold last year.

It is shorter and narrower than the original which makes it a little snug inside especially on the width. Not sure of the exact dimensions though. A Festiniog super saloon is 42'8" by 6' 4". Carrabasset might be a little less than this to accommodate the roofline. So it is big but not quite as huge as you might think.

It was in use for last June's event, which also featured the Darjeeling locomotive.

I'm glad you put that right - frankly an example of the all too common distressing examples of social media posting when a little keyboard action would have informed.

They use one on carriage bogies as well. Or a Birmingham Screwdriver, as we used to know it as. Picture taken in 2003. Scroll down for a picture of Adrian on the same trip in his element in a DHR Coach when looking for spare parts. Fuzz to his right. DHR 2003.jpg
