    Credit to the KESR.

If I were local I'd be out to have a run with some completely new to the line motive power- I hope the next few years bring more interesting visitors- especially if I can make work coincide with being in that part of the country!

Maybe not quite as explicitly as that but a certain Ignored Member was having a fit about it all like those involved didn't consider axle weight etc. Goes to show how far the infrastructure of the KESR has come in preservation that they can indulge in some Big Chufferitis every now and then to great effect.

Non-detuned Battle of Britain Class locomotives maximum driving axle weight of 19 tons 5 cwt.
The same as the class 33/0 which ran at KESR for many years.

Axle weight is not the same factor as overall weight. But when making a point/ clutching at straws to suit your own prejudices, quoting random numbers runs the risk of looking sour and bitter.

I assume any heritage railway these days would have processes in place to ensure whatever they run was suitable or else the regulators might have a bid issue!

Pfft, are you coming on here and daring to suggest that the people who actually organised the event knew a bit more about it than some random people online?

That was something our friend from Hampshire didn’t quite grasp…
Have to say 72 looks rather at home on a former Col Stephens light railway :)

I happen to quite like the building at Caernarfon, it's a massive improvement on the portacabin that was there before!
Given its next to a hugely historically significant piece of architecture in Caernarfon Castle, it does what it needs to without spoiling the site IMHO - it is different architecturally, but I don't dislike it. More importantly, it is also performs its function very well and is a pleasant place to wait for a train.
Ironically, given the 'temporary shack' style of authentic Welsh Highland buildings, the portacabin was probably more authentic. But just like how present day traffic levels justify South African Garratts, the 21st Century passenger would like decent toilets, shop and a cafe.
The modern Welsh Highland is a world away from the one 100 years ago, but it is no less important - given it didn't exist at all for 70 years, what is there now is no less impressive.

Quick question, What's the connection between the Welsh Highland Railway and the KESR?

I hope those having a fit over the presence of a Southern loco on a line in the south of England will be even more outraged when they learn that the K&ESR appear to be leaning toward GWR locos for the future of their motive power.
I would far rather see a Bulleid on that line permanently than have Copper-capped products of Swindon Works become mainstays of the operating fleet. But I do understand the rationale behind it, and I don’t have the money or influence to change it.

Colonel Stephens was involved with both at some point in their history? ;)

I was thinking of the modern WHR but you are correct. He was also involved with the Ffestiniog

People were complaining about a Bulleid on the KESR and saying it was as bad as the design of building at Caernarfon on the WHR in terms of 'not fitting the heritage of the location'

Well, some of us are MORE than happy to see GWR traction on a Southern line, rather than those oversized, overrated, mass-produced spam tins known as the Bulleid Pacifics.

It wasn't a "Southern" line. It was an independent light railway with a character all of its own. Personally, I would love to see Hawthorn Leslie 2-4-0ts, Ilfracombe Goods, and Ford railbuses in the mix, but am more than happy that the railway just exists, per se, never mind what draws in the punters. Beyond the picture of this unique railway's survival into t21st century, anything else is just silliness.

    Point taken, though....
Was is it the pre-SR companies that supplied engines, coaches and wagons in later days of KESR?
Is it also located in one of the biggest SR areas?

It may not be directly SR but... you could have fooled anybody in SR / BR(S) days.
