It is not often that Andy and I agree (although more so recently) and although I probably wouldn't have said some of the things he has said recently, I do believe there is more than enough evidence - maybe even proof - to support his claims. Time alone will no doubt reveal more...

 

There is an election due shortly and, if there are issues, and particularly if they are of the ELR or WSR kind, then they need to be brought into the open so that the membership can deal with them.

 

This seems over severe, surely? To have any traction you need a bit more than just an assertion without any facts to back it up if you are going to persuade members. Also, is it fair to tar them all with the same brush? Some of them have been in post longer than others and more than likely there was an “inner group” who were the drivers.

 

Agreed, but unless you are the board of trustees, it isn't possible to contact all the members and bring matters out "into the open", which is largely why there has been such an impassioned discussion on here, Exmoor-NG, and other Social Media platforms - all in open platforms which include both members and non-members, so not an entirely ideal situation.

With over 3,000 voting members, most trustees, IIRC have had only around 10-15 percent of members voting for them at any recent GM, so many members are apparently totally disengaged from the process..

 

Yup, i would tar all but one of the trustee's with the same brush and 4 of the CIC directors without hesitation

That doesn’t really answer anything, does it, in particular your “rotten to the core” assertion - or am I missing something?

 

This new member wouldn't know who to contact for a meaningful answer. He is also struggling for bearings on the nods, winks and general finger pointing without an in depth understanding of the personalities and histories within the organisation.

When he gets his papers for the AGM, he will need to consider how he places his votes, amongst people he does not know and for whom all he will have is a brief statement.

 

That’s right. Also, if someone makes a statement that implies fundamental dishonesty and/or immorality (rotten to the core) and then can’t or won’t explain why, I find it very hard to attach any weight to what they say.

 

As with many of your recent statements, they should be taken with a large pinch of salt.

 

That goes for many long-standing members, not just the newer ones. Of around 3,000 members, trustees are typically elected with maybe 450 votes max. so is it likely that many are confused or insufficiently well-informed to make any vote?

 

Take them however you like but don't say you weren't warned

I am not surprised at that.

What does surprise, and disappoint, me is the willingness of some to protest their distaste for the current regime yet not use the means that are in their reach to get close enough to comment. Doubly so when the possibility of being at the AGM has been indicated.

It makes my decision harder, as I am left looking at a choice between a leadership who are conspicuous by their silence, and have tabled very weak plans in the consultation, on the one hand; and an opposition who are very noisy, but who have yet to table or indicate any meaningful proposals on the other. All of this at a time when this member is also looking at how the various factions can be brought together, and who might achieve that.
