That RTT link is not correct - this looks like the right one : https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:U54563/2023-04-21/detailed

Doh! Apologies - post edited to include correct RTT path - the one I had copied was where I was looking to see when the last Edinburgh to Kings X train departed…answer - a few mins before the tour was due to arrive; meaning a return to London “on the day” could only be achieved via the WCML…thanks for pointing it out.

Nice video work as always. It always amazes me how noisy some camera shutters are (or, rather, the artificial sound effect of the shutter!). My Canon R5 has a silent shutter option, as most do these days - I don't get why anyone would not have them silenced. I nearly went out to see this but I'm glad I didn't bother given the motley collection of liveries!

Thank you! Camera sound is mine, I’ve never even looked to see if you can turn it off! Usually steam is loud enough to drown it out and I tend to stand back, Knebworth has a fence spitting the platforms so couldn’t move away much, the other day at the Severn Valley me and two cameras were constantly all under one umbrella which didn’t help the sound!!

Just to add to the agony, a southbound Azuma arrived at Alnmouth station about 30 seconds before D9000 arrived for its two minute scheduled stop, completely filling the platform, and it didn't leave until about 30 seconds after the Deltic had gone. The only shots I managed were from the platform end barrier as the Deltic departed. ASG_3180-fbook.jpg

I literally shared your pain 60051 assuming you were the gentleman I had the pleasure of talking to at Alnmouth this evening. Great to meet you both.

That was indeed me. Good to meet you too. It took some of the sting out of the event. To borrow from the title of this thread, it really was a Deltic Surprise when that damned Azuma rolled in. A day of 'if onlys'. :)

Similar thoughts regarding the tour I'm sure from all followers of RSG and indeed the owner. <BJ>

That's a fine shot, though. I wonder if any stray cleaning hands have ever breached that quirky little OHLE orange warning line dip by the cab window? It also brings home how close the horn is to the cab window - must have been deafening if used with the window slid back!

Sorry - wasn't trying to scold you! Most models have the option to turn the sound off (after all it is usually artifically-generated) - just a thought. BTW, is it known if D9000 got to 100mph on the trip?

In dismal light and heavy rain D9000 rounds Queensville curve and gets into its stride after a brief stop at Stafford station while heading the ECS to London. IMG_4409A.jpg IMG_4417A.jpg

There's something pleasing I find about the glow of the lighting in a route indicator panel, as so beautifully illustrated above.

Lol no worries!! On the speed front every video I have seen has unfortunately shown her limping along, apart from when being pushed by the Electric at the rear!

Seemingly one Deltic engine failed anyway at Peterborough so I doubt if around 75-80mph was exceeded. Shame.

Poor light maybe but well caught - including the water streaming off the rails from the wheels. A scenario - a Deltic off the Flying Scotsman deputises for a failed 47 on an Edinburgh-Glasgow push-pull (at the wrong end!) - or something like that... Someone in the front brake is enjoying the departure - do we not slightly frown on staff leaning out on a blind curve?

In service they tended to have the horn tucked away down near the buffers. I remember noticing that D9018 Ballymoss had the horns up in front of the cab and I used to wonder why it was different to the rest. A couple of pics here, D9018 in 1964 (scan of a knocked-about print - apologies for the quality) and D9011 (in blue) in October 1966. Once I'd noticed Ballymoss's horns' location I made a point of looking at the other 21 in the class (I lived close to the ECML), but I didn't find any others. After 1968 I drifted away from railways, so I don't know what it was like in later years. 640813-D9018-'Ballymoss',-Newcastle-13-Aug-64-(D-Cunningham)-fbook.jpg 01-EE-Type-5--Deltic-D9011--The-Royal-Northmberland-Fusiliers,-Newcastle-22-Oct-1966-fbook.jpg
