A very good question. But with a little pricing experience, I’m very conscious that just calculating the direct income from a particular item will miss important parts of the profitability.

That's a good point. We can spitball, estimate and discuss all day here, but ultimately it's the Railway that has the actual numbers and data to work with and puzzle out what works best for them.

I just hope they get it right, whilst it doesn't sit well with me, if they think they can make chasing the high-end market work for them- good luck with it.

edited out of sequence I think, the hymek goes green to blue and back again. 7009 and 7060 if I make them out correctly. I guess the four BSC wagons tripped with it from Kidderminster are the ‘second batch of four donated in 1971’.

Aren't you all missing the point, this is extra , possibly a couple of coaches added to a service train. No cutback I believe to the normal clientel. So if it works its extra pounds in the bank to SVR not cutting down on normal offering,

Not really an exclusive service in that case.

If I were paying that money for a meal on train, I would expect Pullman style service as provided by other heritage railways, albeit without Pullman carriages in this instance. In other words, dedicated car park spaces near the entrance, a reserved area for guests with canapes served, and smartly dressed attendants welcoming passengers aboard via a red carpet. Guided tours of the footplate would also be a bonus.

Rocking up to a normal service train without special treatment at this price would not float my boat. Most passengers would see it as mediocre.

But most of what you’ve suggested used to happen with the ‘Limited’ anyway.

More reason to run it at a sensible price.

Like what?! Bet they have to pay to park too! I certainly had no canapes or red carpet in 2018, in fact I was shown to the wrong table at first!

I noticed at the gala that these have started being given out for walk-up purchasers as well. I may have been mistaken, but earlier in the year I was under the impression that *only* online buyers got the free return. That was something I found rather unfair, and if that's not (no longer?) the case then the difference in pricing between walk-up and advance seems much more reasonable.

I've just double check something (I'm not Booking Office so wouldn't know from experience) and it appears that it is available for both OTD and pre-book and just not advertised as available OTD.

The SVR website has new timetables on its website effective from 27th May for the rest of the year https://svr.co.uk/whats-on/calendar-timetables-and-locomotive-roster/

A revised Timetable A (two train service, one steam + one diesel) will see S1 depart Kidderminster at 10am and S2 at 11.15am.

A revised Timetable B (three train service, two steam + one diesel) with the additional S3 service making one round trip each day, leaving Kidderminster at 12.45pm.

On both, the first Bridgnorth departure will be at 11.55am

In June and early July operating days reduce from four to three, returning to four with the summer holidays. Friday services have been cut in addition to the existing non-operational days of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

I wouldn't trust the website about that. An internal document sent around yesterday clearly shows running on those Fridays.

At least there are two steam diagrams now, but seems strange not to go the whole hog and have it start and end at Bridgnorth, even if they just try it for a period of time and see if it is worth it or not?

The website is showing trains running on Fridays now, so good to see the error corrected quickly. Especially one like that, given that prospective visitors will use the website to plan when/whether to visit the SVR, not internal documents! Maybe I'm imagining it, but I do slightly get the feeling that responsiveness on fixing little errors like this has improved recently. That's a good thing of course.

The new timetable B will also allow a round trip from Bridgnorth, steam both ways, with just over an hour at Kidder. That gives enough of a break to have lunch at the station without a mad rush, which the current B does not. I don't know whether that's been a factor in the thinking.

I had intended to add to my post yesterday (but forgot as I was enjoying a visit to the Moors and was quite tired when I got back) that I think the website can be slow at loading changes in. Sometimes I think the 'errors' are actually this rather than true mistakes.

The new B is certainly better. Let's hope the May half term week goes well.

Good day on the SVR today. The railway certainly seemed very busy. 43106 was in very good form on load 9 it is hard to believe that its ticket is almost done. I hope it isn't laid aside for too long. It's my daughter's (9) favourite svr locomotive it's the first one she can remember travelling behind to see Santa so holds happy memories. Thanks to the crew she got to cab the locomotive today it has made her day.

A figure of £185,000 is quoted as being raised here, though that's last weeks figure as far as I'm aware.
