Here is the locker for electronics on 80135@s bunker:- IMG_2297 copy.jpg

It appears not to have been an original feature on this or most other Standard 4 tanks. However the Bluebell's 80151 does have a similar locker and appears to have had it from BR days - certainly there is no need for electronics on their locos these days - and presumably Grosmont has copied this. This is 80151 in Sheffield Park workshop in 2016:- IMG_6346 copy.jpg

Hopefully the locker does not take up too much of the water space.

Interesting. There’s a photo here of 80059 with a similar locker (scroll down):

    https://www.kentrail.org.uk/br_standard_tank_2.htm

I wonder what it was for - I’m wondering if it was related to water treatment perhaps? Does @std tank know?

And how long have they been working on 80135......... Depending on what needs doing to '136 it could be the better option to fit the necessary electronics to her rather than wait for 80135 being finished. In the meantime order a new electronic kit for installation into which ever of the pair is ready to run.

You could have looked closer than that, Tom, as 80151 has one, as well .:) https://locoyard.com/2012/11/03/br-standard-4mt-class-tank-80151/ again, scroll down. I've a vague idea it was for AWS batteries but could be way off the mark. As you say, @std tank will almost certainly know.

I'm fairly sure that 80136 has never been registered on the Network nor was overhauled to the required spec so i suspect hat idea wouild be a non-starter, even if realistic in terms of time and cost.

Fair comment Steve. But I've pretty well always advocated that the Moors should have as many as possible "passed". Even if only with a restricted mainline certificate i.e. Whitby-Grosmont [with the option of Battersby/Middlebrough at some point]. With the Moors own fleet being top of the list for approval.

Yes Steve, it was a modification of the bunker to accommodate the AWS batteries. The relevant drawing was done in 1958. Approximately half the Class were fitted with AWS.

I note that the previously £40 annual pass is now £45.

And the video I've seen contains the best analysis so far.

Wishing the team all the best in getting it sorted, as we know they will.

    Any link to the video?

Torgomaig and I had the loco on Monday. It only did another 19 miles before failure. It could so easily have been us picking up the pieces. For the avoidance of doubt, it was no fault of the crew.

Saw a couple of armchair locomotive crew suggest it was but I can't fathom how it splitting on that plane could be the fault of the crew.

I was reminded last night that there was actually a void in this area of the bunker prior to the modification. The original bunker drawing confirms this, so the water capacity would not be affected.

I got sent a longer version of the video linked, with a fairly short description at the end that would cause Admin to have kittens and me to get a ban for swearing!

Let's just say autocorrect would say the analysis was 'that's ducked it'.

The RHS Cylinder has (had) a number of historic repairs to it already. I imagine this incident was as a result of the casting being slightly weakened by the existing repairs.

[Edit: At least I believe it was the RHS, I recall taking a look the last time it was uncovered for repair]
