Steam heat pipe is run very carefully under the running plate.
The Southern just stuck it on the outside but it looked naff, so it’s been moved out of sight on 563.

I've played gigs with smaller stages than the front of 563.

Mr Adams certainly showed great foresight in designing his engines to provide a platform for pop videos.

I forgot about this one. I was thinking of the Queen video. I know its an aside but I'm always amazed how grubby and cheaply produced British music videos looked even into the 80s. Like the crew and sundries of Terry And June were taken out for a couple of days to the Bluebell and told to shoot Sheena Easton.

Is that @Jamessquared in his younger days driving?

Seriously though looking at the opening scenes whoever directed/produced it either had a real feel for railways or The Blujebell did an excellent job helping them select images/sequences.

I think the rather experienced BBC crew that worked on said show (and others) would take rightful umbrage at your ignorant and insulting comment.

Said crews could easily be working a sitcom at the weekend but a period drama next week.

Nice thought but no. The person in shot was an actor - the actual driver (the late Freeland Eastwood, a legendary Bluebell character) kept out of sight on the other side of the cab. See page 17 of BT3, https://www.bluebell-railway.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Issue-3-final.pdf

The legendary Freeland Eastwood, even a legend on the NYMR in the days when he, Dave White and Dave Ratcliff used to ‘holiday’ on the line. Each has gone down in NYMR folklore for reasons I won’t go into. ;)

Steve, i take it your railway, has rules that it abides by, and Management that isn't on an ego trip, that treats people fairly.
The Roostery is a result of having no where else to turn,
Now getting back to 563. when the T3 returns to Swanage, will it go to Herston first to have any final work completed, or go to Swanage ?

No it will head straight to Norden to meet up with it’s tender in the coming weeks, month or two. Dependant on raising the last amount.

Wasn't intended to be insulting, more a comment on the film quality of the day. I'm sure the crew worked hard at their roles and a cursory glance at T&J clips shows it was mostly sound stages. I wasn't there in the 80s so I need to run off archive footage, which all looks grimy in outdoor shots.

According to my mate who was actually in the business at the time, indoor scenes were recorded in the studios at Television Centre in front of an audience. Outdoor inserts were shot on 16mm film, common practice at the time.

As I understand it, even if the final amount isn’t raised, it will be completed anyway funded by the SRT. It’s just that ideally they want a clean slate, so that it can immediately start earning money towards its next overhaul, rather than repaying the costs for the current one.

We have yet to draw down from very restricted SRT funds and have no plans to do so. So yes the appeal is very much still critical.

The SRT has plenty of other competing demands on it's limited funds at present. The best chance of seeing 563 completed in the shortest term is by ensuring the success of it's own appeal.

Well said Nick, the trust has a bigger picture to concern their selves with.
The Swanage Railway and its survival.
In these Austere times, a shiny Victorian locomotive that the majority of our customers have no idea of its history, is a nice to have, but not necessary to keep the railway solvent.
If we want to see a T3 hauling passengers trains in its natural environment in the near future, then please bung a tenner etc at the fund, otherwise, it will happen, but when........
