Agreed, some very good sections . 65 over Grateley was astounding with 380 tons. Honiton way above my predicted 22 minimum , This double chimney Jubilee is at least equal to a class 7. What are they feeding it on? Pete Roberts drove to Salisbury and it was good to see him looking so well

Interesting that the down train was shown on RTT as 715 tonnes and 60mph max, while the return was 420 tonnes and 75mph.

Interesting, as they were originally classed as 5XP before 'promotion' to 6P5F.

According to RTT - she covered Exeter St Davids (start) to Taunton (pass) in 33 minutes for the 30 miles 60 chains distance - including the 'hillock' called Whiteball!
Not bad at all for a 6P5F apparently hauling 8 + PoB.
Currently right on time passing through Weybridge on the Up [not very] Slow.

Apologies for the 'tryping' error. You are quite correct.
Makes the efforts of 45596 even more impressive I suppose.
Train now seems to have been turned out onto the Up Fast.
Hope passengers have enjoyed/are enjoying the trip.

5XP was an LMS classification when Scots were class 6 and the Pacifics were 7. I think it meant half way between a 6 and 7. With double chimney perhaps. 5596 should be a 6XP.

A rewarding day from the lineside in some top weather conditions and a fine performance from the Jubilee all round! Seen at Wimbledon, Worting Jn, Templecombe, Pinhoe, Upton Scudamore, Andover and Weybridge:

Join the Society and you can join us as part of the on train sales team! Regrettably I couldn’t do this trip as I was driving 500 miles home from a week in Fort William.

It truly is a beautiful looking engine with a footplate that the BLS should be proud of. Its performance is head and shoulders above its class mates. And for Stanier lovers it's worth mentioning that when the cylinder cocks are turned off they remain off!

Saturday was a tour de force and a long day for everyone. The West Coast crews were superb and did more than was needed to provide the spectacle. A hard day for the firemen for whom particular thanks are needed as at no time was there a hint of a steaming issue. I know that it's not easy on the CME circuit but this trip was a notch or three up on endurance. All credit therefore and the original path given to the train by the planners was perfect despite WC having to tweak it for extra water stops.

You know the headlines going down. Coming back, 56 up Whiteball and the dash to Bristol. 26 on Upton Scudamore despite a slow pass of Westbury due to a signal check. A more measured climb of Porton and as a result dropped time to Andover A turn of speed at Fleet and all you could do on the slow after Woking.

An amazing day. You had to be on it to enjoy it so I won't give chapter and verse. That's what you pay good money for. :)

Yes it was one to live long in the memory. That dash from Basingstoke to Salisbury was totally unexpected.

If I can get a couple of good lineside shots from someone on Nat Pres then I will try to make yesterday the lead feature in my next HR column but time is short folk, so his res images to dejbb@live.co.uk asap. I will pay a repro fee for any used.
