The line has been rebuilt to Pontprenshitw...

The team have rebuilt the narrow gauge line as far as Pontprenshitw.

This was in fact the original terminus of the narrow gauge railway, originally opening in 1986 after the trackbed was bought.

Visitors can now take a short walk down underneath the railway bridge, where a gorge and waterfalls can be viewed.

Work now starts on restoring the line past Pontprenshitw, to Llandyfriog.

Are they going to ballast it? If the photo is anything to go by, that track is going to go sideways as soon as the sun comes out.

So is that back to where they were before the track was all ripped up for the road train?

It’s not recent, they opened back to Pont in August 2020.
No there’s a little bit more yet, if you scroll back through the thread, I posted what’s left etc a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry perhaps you missed the point, it’s great they made it back to Pont but it would be nice to hear of what progress has been made in near three years since. I’m pretty sure we have heard enough about the paperwork side but not much on the physical side, which is a shame. I know they are planning on putting a loop back in like used to be there before the extensions, which could indicate the intention is to terminate there for the foreseeable future but they aren’t far from the mothballed remaining track at this point, which will hopefully be easier than having to lay new track as they have had to so so far to get to where they are.

A post reporting that legally required returns are late again alerts all of us that the risk of the company being struck off has increased. That is at least of interest, and the news might reach someone who is in a position to exert some influence.

Not at all, it wasn't just aimed at you. I don't care if the photo was taken 3 years ago to be honest, I'd just rather look at and talk about trains and infrastructure than the same circular discussion on accounts.

I think that is a dramatic over-estimation of the significance of this forum. Also I'm pretty sure I can imagine what the reaction would be at the TVR if someone pops round to exert some influence.

Let them succeed or fail by their own hand but please, stop going on about it. It is monumentally tedious.

I find this thread is a little like watching a car crash. It’s compelling, worrying, and you wonder if anything will be left at the end. Possibly tedious to in the sense that the “car” seems to be endlessly hitting the same obstacle on each lap. It would be nice to see the driver try something different on the next go around.

Why not try to be nice to each other you might just find that with a bit of co-operation you might just get out of the hole which is being dug?

I visited the TVR about 15 years ago with my oldest son who was then about 5

    Perfectly pleasant ride.

But my question might be, whats it all about?

It can be just a visitor attraction, but its not in a part of Wales with 'public' narrow gauge lines

My suggestion might be that given that there was a NG system at RNAD Trecwn and that some of the loco's and stock are ex military, some sort of museum of military NG might be worth looking at

What's it all about? You could ask that question of many heritage lines, but it doesn't mean that they are necessarily pointless.

Having a tourist narrow gauge railway is one thing, but having a RNAD museum is something else, also of course you need someone to be driving such a project and hopefully not upsetting the regular volunteers. in concept it is a great idea and it might just improve the image of the TVR as well, but I would suggest there is a lot of work to get to that stage and most importantly you need the support of the volunteers you have to make it work.

Not sure that an RNAD Museum would have people queueing to get in TBH. But a tourist railway in an area without much competition might well work if it was marketed well.

    * Endless circular arguments about company accounts
    * someone suggests a picture of trains to lighten the mood
    * picture of train and new track posted
    * NP members immediately claim the photo isn't recent or that the track isn't safe due to lack of ballast

Can people please post something positive before going off on their usual whingefest?!
