A pair of HST power cars will be visiting for the diesel gala. They will haul the 3CEP.

Does the railway still have a little battery powered road flat truck? If so, can anyone give more information?

Hopefully it will look good following its repaint. At Didcot is was the getting the nickname of being in 50 shades of green! It should have GWR lettering on the side as I was speaking to someone "in the know" and they said it would be painted differently to 6106 which has Great Western on its tanks.

4144 entered traffic in January 1948 so would have never carried the pre 1935 livery as applied to 6106. Well done the GWS for getting it right

Photo taken at Didcot back in the year 2000. I expect it will soon like this again

Wondering if anyone close to the railway can help with this...

8 weeks ago I booked local accommodation to make our first visit to the line, who had advertised that on selected Saturdays there would be an all-diesel service and June 3rd would be the DMU. With a week to go I have just double checked the website and the calender and events pages have had all mention of June 3rd removed, it's now showing as the railway not even open, and no notes to say anything has been cancelled or removed...

Have these diesel days just been quietly binned off?? A bummer for us if they have!

Seems to still be on the calendar on the website, if unsure why not phone them or drop them an email

I must admit I have not beent o this railway yet, but I recently saw a TV programme with Rob Bell? I noticed that he made a remark about a section of the line that never got build between Wallingford and Watlington. Can anyone point me in a good direction where I can find out more about this and does any one know just how much of this route never got built?

Wild Swan published a two volume work on the Watlington Branch. I think it's now probably out of print but it might be worth looking on their website. You could be lucky at Chinnor Station, they have one of the best secondhand bookshops I've ever seen on a railway. Watlington Station building and goods shed still exists as far as I know.

You could do worse than take a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watlington_and_Princes_Risborough_Railway and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallingford_railway_branch_line. To summarise, a rural railway line that never made any money, and couldn't justify the funds to join the gap between the two termini.

Very pleased to see that's it's all reappeared on the website, so this long distance visit is back on!

that's how much never got build - there was a branchline to Watlington from Princes Risborough, and a branchline to Wallingford from Cholsey. The bit in the middle that would have joined them never happened.

If you joined the two now it would make a really attractive heritage line - “The Red Kite Line” perhaps …

    Ah well, one can dream!

I have never seen any reliable info that there was any plan to link the two branch lines, I think the original plan was to reach Waltington via an extension of the line from Wallingford line which would have resulted in a terminus at Watlington. This never happened and instead the line to Waltington was built from the Princes Risborough end instead.
