The King came as part of the NYMR celebrations, and included the full Royal Train.

How often has the Royal Train run over a heritage line, pulled by a steam loco?

It’s been done before, 6024 did it in about 2008 at the SVR, and hasn’t Princess Anne been hauled on a Royal Train on the DFR and GWR?

Only if you define a royal train as a train that has a royal on it! :) The Royal Train has not been on GWR metals, but HRH rode in an LMS inspection saloon to open Cheltenham, and I believe also drove Black Prince once or twice too.

Unlikely on the GWR as it isn't connected to the main line, and I think it's unlikely to have occurred on the DFR. When I asked the question I was really meaning the Royal Train rather than a Royal Train. The NYMR already had an example of the latter in the form of its GW saloon, which he travelled in a few years ago when he came to open Pickering Station roof.

In that case then yes, it happened at the SVR in 2008

Is 31466 mainline registered? Realtime has it down as a light engine and I guess it could be useful for Whitby if it is.

Did wonder if the 31 would now be redundant now the 33 has returned to service. Has been a useful loco for the SVR and I like the EWS livery.

Towed I gather. And yes, the 31 was covering for the 33 whilst that was being worked on. I do think the Valley is missing something in the type 2 range.

As it seems to have rained quite a bit in York today, have the Moors also received a much needed soaking?

No, being dragged up by 20142 and 20189. That still leaves them with 2 Whitby diesels and 2 NYMR ones though, so should be enough until the weather changes.

Not only did they bring the Cl.31, they brought rain. Both are most welcome. :) Some steam over the Moors should start on Thursday with a phased return over the following week as ground conditions are still not good.

A report on the NYMR forum suggests they already have:

Repton working 1410 Whitby - Pickering and 1615 Pickering - Grosmont in the rain.
