LMS 44932 The Settle & Carlisle Eden Express 1/7/23

44932 doing this friends of the Settle & Carlisle excursion today from Hellifield to Carlisle and back .

 

What are the chances of two Black 5s in Carlisle together then as 45231 is on the Lakelander. ? (arrivals due at 12:52 an 12:30 respectively)

 

Some 43 years since regular BR steam finished, two Black Fives, 44932 & 45305, are seen at the north end of Citadel Station, 6 August 2011.

Two shots of the Black 5s at Carlisle - 44932 brought its empty stock into road A just before 45231 retreated to Upperby. Full marks to 44932's driver for pulling up at exactly the right spot to see them alongside each other! Is this the first time since summer 1967 that two trains hauled by Black 5s were in Carlisle together? (We've had double headed Black 5s several times since then, of course)

 

Lovely. Almost like the old days, but with more weeds and less soot.
