How many S15 parts does the NYMR have? I thought there were 2, plus the remains of 841.

There are chassis parts of 825, 841 and 830 but only 2 boilers between them. I think it was the intention at one time to overhaul the second boiler to reduce the downtime when 825's boiler was in need of overhaul but I don't think it progressed very far. Not far enough to be considered as a viable swap candidate yet, at any rate, although I don't think a repair plan for 825 exists yet. A shame as it seems to be an ideal loco for NYMR purposes and its absence (along with 76079) leaves the Whitby fleet a bit weak.

Isn’t 44806 being certified to run to Whitby? Another candidate in the not too distant future if so.

I was 825's fireman on the afternoon of Tues 2nd May. We had a perfectly normal trip (Grosmont - Whitby - Pickering - Grosmont) and the loco was in good fettle and steaming well. We took it on shed for disposal and opened the smokebox for the fitter to look round. Initially satisified he were about to close it up when a whisp of steam from the tubeplate below the header caught his eye. Further examination suggested that maybe it was coming from a rivet, so it was arranged for the boiler smith to come in at 5am next morning to have a closer look at it. And the rest as they say is history.... What he found was a small crack on the outside of the tube plate, which I believe on more detailed later examination showed it to be a much larger crack on the inside.

We certainly had no idea that afternoon that the engine would not be working again for some considerable time. Despite it being a nice sunny day I never even took a picture of it on its final working.

Work started on 830's boiler a good few years ago with Roy Haines doing the work after he had retired as a full time boilersmith. Unfortunately Roy passed away and the job stopped. I think that there was a plan to continue with the work once 825's boiler was completed but no idea what happened with this plan. If I remember correctly the firebox wasn't the best, having half side patches riveted on.
