I suppose it depends on which period of 52044's long life the owners wish to portray. By the time it was withdrawn from Wakefield in 1958 the loco had acquired a Hughes style door - no idea when it lost the earlier style door though.

Thanks for the info. If she were my engine, she would be turned out in full L&Y livery to match the L&Y Trust's beautiful rake of coaches...but that's just a personal view, of course.

Yeah, I agree, I queried this before (especially as this year is an anniversary) and the answer seems to be the cost involved in applying full L&Y livery although I’d imagine surely it’s less than painting it the wrong shade of Green for a few months before repainting it again into black.

Just visiting this quiet little thread to mention that, despite union action next Saturday, I plan to travel north to the KWVR for the very first time. I say 'first' as I did visit Haworth when 41241 took us up to MP 4 and back when the railway almost opened but some technicality meant that the visiting tour couldn't run on the line itself.

So I'm hopeful that this time things will be good especially as 78022 and the LNWR coal tank (1054) will be working.

I am a member of the KWVR and, for what it is worth, I think it is a superb line. Good variety of motive power, well kept stations and stock, pleasant and dedicated staff of all ages, good facilities, a good gradient for the locos to climb, and beautiful scenery. Interesting museums at Ingrow and Oxenhope, and there is also Haworth. Oh, and it's Yorkshire, what's not to like? I hope your day lives up to my billing!

I too had been planning to visit next Saturday but the rail strikes have put me off (I've just looked at the timetable Northern are running and will skip for certain). The first two Saturdays in August are looking good for me though.

It's a mission to do on a '9 to 5' strike day but at least Northern stands a chance of keeping to time if they are only doing a Leeds to Skipton shuttle. And of course, only a few passengers on the network result in good value advance tickets.

Despite the strikes I managed to get to the KWVR yesterday and it was a great day in indifferent weather. 78022 and 58926 were in action. Travelling behind a locomotive that's over 130 years old (LNWR 1054) was a delight and a lovely sight as well. The quirky collection of vintage vehicles on its train caused all manner of difficulty for those with prams and pushchairs. Lucky the timetable allows for long station stops if necessary.

The Coal Tanks one of my Dad’s favourite machines, the past couple of times it’s made it to the SVR we’ve had to plan our day out regarding when we can fit it in :);)

I hope you enjoyed your visit to God's Country, but even we cannot "part the waves" viz...change the weather......like you I love the LNWR tank, it has such simple and lovely lines, and is always presented in top condition.

I believe that the Bahamas group is its custodian. That will say a great deal about its care.

They are along with a few industrials and the steam crane at Ingrow and it all started when a Stockport engineman wrote a letter to the Manchester Evening News. I joined in 1967 when the Edgeley Shedmaster told me I would need a permit to bunk the shed in future, a BLS membership card!!
I travelled with the big engine yesterday doing on train sales on the Minehead trip.

I visited earlier this month and has an excellent day. I have been before, I think 2022 was the first in many years though, and for variety I alighted at intermediate stations and walked between them. 52044 was a bonus.

I happened to glance at the Oakworth webcam yesterday as the Standard 5 was approaching with an Elf Express. Train had an 08 on the back, not sure I have ever seen one moving so quickly. The rods were just a blur.
