How did they get away with running with no surport coach ? or is it just a case of there running round it ?

No support coach, just the loco, no idea why, maybe others can shed light on it ? It definitely had a support coach when it went from Tyseley down to Bishops Lydeard.

It was 45231's support coach it took down to the WSR, since 45231 returned back to Bury for the Great Britain tour i suppose the coach went too :p

Support coaches are NOT a requirement for 60MPH or less rated machines, though a lot have them to make life easier.

Even without seeing a pic the headcode is the giveaway - 0Z for light engine as opposed to 5Z (ECS).

What a great picture Steve, the old and the not so old almost side by side on the main line. The fact that both designs, one over 30 and the other over 80 years old, are still going strong is a tribute to their designers, builders and everybody that looks after them.

Kinlet Hall went down to the WSR from Tyseley with 45231's support coach before the WSR gala. 45231 & tender went by road to Bishops Lydeard. The plan was for 4936 & 45231 + support coach to return from WSR on Wednesday 1 April, 4936 dropping off at Tyseley & the Black Five & coach carrying on to Bury.

However overnight 31 March/1 April a NR rail mounted crane working on rerailing a derailed engineers wagon in Fairwater yard at Taunton struck an overhead 132kV power line knocking out all the signalling in the Taunton area. Result - no movements off WSR for several days!

45231 & coach were returned to Bury by road to meet their GB II committments, 4936 stayed on at WSR enjoying a few more days at the seaside before returning 'home' today to Tyseley as a light engine movement without support coach, a rare event.

Thanks - I had to hastily recompose the shot when I realised that the HST and Hall would be side by side under the bridge I was on, then the HST driver sounded the horn and 4936's crew replied so I took the picture then, rather than wait for them to get closer

Thanks for the pictures, they are fantastic. We had a great run back yesterday, great weather, great loco and great crew. Its also not the norm to see just an engine on the main line. What an experience, only thing was lack of tea at water stops!!!!
