Yes I know you weren’t, I was responding to Jimc who perhaps took it differently.

I think its a very useful service to the wider enthusiast community to clearly counter 'slack ' humour. I get a bit fed up with people who post something and then patheticly claim ' l was only joking ' when others quite rightly express a contrary view.

Would love to see this loco stay in South Wales and be restored whether that be at blaenavon or the gwili. It would need a person or organisation with deep pockets to buy it and return to steam so it will likely go elsewhere I would guess.

It would be a grim world were a little bit of (blatantly obvious!) humour was no longer permitted or even recognised. The eventual fate of 9629, whatever it proves to be, is hardly a matter of earthshaking consequence. There are more than enough panniers of this variety around, if it became razor blades life on earth would not come to a standstill. I don't think I was being pathetic by having to point out that my original post was in jest, rather disappointed that I felt it was necessary to do so!

It wasn’t necessary though. We all knew your original post was in jest. It was subsequent posts by other users that were being discussed.

It’s only been for sale for a week or so, with offers invited by the end of September.

Reading some of the comments I would just like to point out the locomotive is privately owned by shareholders and not the Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway. The railway company does have a minority share but no where near close to be able to dicate the locos future.

The Pontypool & Blaenavon Railway would potentially be interested in taking the loco on but at this point in time could not afford the purchase price wanted for the locomotive as the company has other priorities for it's expenditure.

In my eyes it's a great shame that the last surviving ex BR steam locomotive in South Wales is likely to move on and leave South Wales with no ex main line steam locomotives.

The reason for the sale is a lot of the shareholders are getting old and with progress being so slow the sudden realisation that the project will never be finished within there life time.

    Alex.

There will still be 3 at Barry won’t there? But yes still a shame if 9629 leaves the PBR. My first memory of the PBR is seeing several rusty GWR locos stored there.

6686 and 92245 have recently been sold and left Barry. 5539 is privately owned and is having a contact overhaul at Barry so will move on once complete.

Have these sales been reported? Where have they gone to? My ageing memory might be failing, because I have no recollection of reading of either! I thought 92245 was boilerless, its boiler having been sold as a spare for 92219.

Don't know if they have been reported as sold, only giving information I know to be correct. Not sure where they have gone, I know who bought them, I say bought in lose terms as I have been told they have not been paid for.

I wouldn't want you to break any confidences or reveal any names, but would you say that the locos have a brighter future with the new owner?

It’s a shame to see the loco leave Blaenavon, I was told at the Coal Train Weekend earlier this year that restoration was ongoing, I know it’s up to the owner in the end but it’s a shame it’s leaving nonetheless. On a brighter note the railway has come on a lot since I first visited in 2015, the future is bright in Blaenavon!

YAY!! Another pannier tank on the heritage list!
All parts crossed, once its overhauled, we see in action on an ex-GWR line and [in the not to distant future] a few appearances here, there and everywhere!!

I wonder what’s become of the Dean Goods boiler, obtained from KWVR for this loco but sidelined after Didcot released the original 9629 boiler.
