Passed through Newark Northgate at 09:38, after having a 30 minute waterstop at Grantham. Looking and sounding good. There was a light engine 67 following.

My son and I went out for it at Welwyn North. Saw it at 7.50, 22 minutes after departure, not bad for 22 miles out of London! My son's shot is here:

I'm no expert on cars, or bikes.

They left at 08.05am, after a 40 minute delay, the bike wouldnt start and the film crew wanted to film both May and Hammond leaving together

Hammond is riding the bike, May is in the Jag. Clarkson is on the train they are going old fashioned routes north (i.e. A1 road vs A1 steam)
The support cars are on the left (includng the van to fix the bike).

Here's a few more at Kings Cross.

Left dead on time though the stock was a little bit late coming in, scaring a few film crew !

Is this the TV appearance that was shrouded in secrecy then?

Great pics from today already - thanks very much to those who have posted them =D>

Yes this was the secret run (it was kept secret as the BBC didnt want 10K's of people on the lineside like all the other Tornado runs due to the security risk). At the same time Top Gear has it's own following and it would have meant 100ks of people on the trackside, most of whom have no lineside experience.
Hence it was decieded if this leaked in advance it would be pulled and the trip canceled. That said their is police presence at the major stations for this run.
    (KX had riot barriers).

The Mod's have been fly swatting posts on this subject all week !!!

Arrived 10.39am (6 late) York, it's currently taking water.

Here's my last pictures from this am

(i see the server is playing up a bit with attachments), i'm able to post by deleting some older pictures from my older threads... I suggest maybe a few other people do the same to make some space, and reduce the size to less than 100kb, i'll email admin.

    So why all the secrecy?

We pay for the Beeb and their contempt for us is all too graphically shown in this nonsense. I have an ongoing correspondence with one of their producers at the minute, about wasting people's time with their attitude to location shoots, only ten days ago.

The available paths and watering locations were correctly assessed earlier this week in places where free speech is allowed - so there is no surprise at the number of photters out.

I hope that the lineside interest is not edited out when this is screened

Thanks, ADB. Appreciated. From the York time you've given, I can get an idea of when it's due past Durham then \:D/

(Of course, a PM would be nice... :-$ )

I can appreciate exactly why this would be kept quiet - the thought of serious trespass is scary...

Glad you like it. Spamcan92 is my Yahoo alter ego. I tried to upload it here but I got the "attachment limit has been reached" message.

As far as secrecy is concerned I think this has been answered with the above post, especially with the recent debate's on forums and in the railway press as to trespassing, nevermind the problems of crowded platforms.

This is great for me. I love Tornado and Top Gear. Strange Clarkson's on Tornado (Unless it's something to do with his love of engineering) Go Tornado.

I bet a billion million pounds Clarkson will make a joke about trainspotters on the programme

If he doesn't I don't have a billion million by the way

fyi this picture is not today's (or been edited)... when it left London and York it's support coach was 1960's Maroon (See other posts).

Left York ontime, slipped heavy, it's right behind the Edinburgh service, held a HST

FYI it is today's and it has been edited. I took it, I edited in Photoshop, an easy task on this occasion as was removing the OHLE. If you look closely you will see the two leading vehicles are identical as I've cloned the second vehicle over the top of the maroon support coach.
