A bloke doing something to something….

 

On 29th Dec. 1981, during the last few days of Deltic operation, 58 year old York driver Harry "Oddsocks" Wilson is in the cab of 55021 for what could have been his last Deltic turn.

Now 100 years old Harry Wilson travelled to Scarborough on Saturday 19/8/23 behind 55013 (alias 55009) as a guest of the Deltic Preservation Society and UK Railtours. He is seen here in the cab and alongside the loco, clearly enjoying the limelight.

Great to see he is still with us!
I remember him well, driving the BR 'York Circulars' and 'Scarborough Spas' in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

What is it that draws people to watch trains? Don't know, but I've been at it for more years now than I care to remember.
