Re 34105 - Brocklebank Line also had multiple shareholders and that ownership has transferred to the SLL quite smoothly...is that a precedent?

Do SLL have the capacity for another overhaul? They're a pretty impressive set up and they seem to be keeping a lot of plates spinning (given they have almost 25% of all preserved Bulleid pacifics in their care) but there must be a point at which they can't stretch themselves any further.

A few weeks ago someone posted a photo on Facebook of 34105 in happier times working on the MHR.

The question of ownership came up in the comments section and a prickly debate then ensued between numerous people including myself and a person supposedly in the know regarding the ownership of 34105.

Let's just say that he rejected completely out of hand the notion that the MHR have any shares whatsoever in 34105. He also rejected the idea of 34105 going to the Swanage Railway or being connected to any other organisation, emphasising the point that the MHR are contractually obliged to complete the stalled overhaul.
There were other statements made as well, but the admins of the group where the photo was put up swiftly removed the post, possibly after a request from one of the parties involved in the disagreement contacted the FB site administrator.

I guess the future of 34105 is likely to be decided by legal means, sadly.

Well, you learn something new everyday, My reading of it is that the MHRPS, own about 1/4 of the known shares donated to them by people who purchased shares in the engine, the issue is that the management have no agreement with any one who claims to be the owner, over the overhaul and how costs are shared, indeed if the owner is able to contribute anything towards the overhaul, there is every chance that this owner, might if the engine is overhauled say thank you, I'm now removing my engine from the line, and that is why the overhaul was put on hold,

It’s got to be over twenty five years ago now since 34105 Swanage last worked a service train at the MHR. I remember being a crew member in 1997 working on 34105 Swanage at a steam gala.

The WLHRT accounts state quite clearly that they own a 26.6% share in 34105, so your understanding of about a quarter ownership is correct Martin.
If the said individual challenging this statement is in his belief correct. Then surely by the WLHRT stating this in the company accounts, he is accusing the WLHRT of an incorrect statement of fact.

I fired 34105, on numerous occations, as well as 34016, and 35005, I found the rebuilds to steam better, but saying that, when we has 257 that steamed very well, Taw valley, i crewed once, but never got to pick the shovel up, as it was just a short trip down to Alresford, then i had to wait for the next train, as it was working a tour, and we handed it over to the br crew, 34105 I always found to be heavier on coal, you needed a deeper fire, where as 34016, ran best with a lighter fire as long as you kept it light and bright.

I’ve always thought it would be a fab marketing tool if 34105 was based at Swanage.

Was it 34105 that received a large donation towards its overhaul a few years ago, and was meant to be done to mainline standards? Or was that a different Bulleid?

During the period that she ran on the S&D, 34105 was regarded as a poor steamer.

Yes I'd heard that as well.

34043 "Combe Martin" was similarly a poor performer on the S&D.

I believe the Swanage Railway were interested in buying it from Barry in the 1970s. However someone else got in there first and it went to the MHR.

Then there were stories in the Railway press in the late 1990s/early 2000s that the owners were looking to sell, and the Swanage Railway were interested in buying it. Obviously that came to nothing though.

In an ideal world 34007 and 34016 would end up at a certain railway in Cornwall and 34105 would end up in Dorset.
Then again in an ideal world I’d like to end up waking up one morning with Liz White and Keely Hawes…

I thought 34007 moved away from Bodmin because it couldn't run on some of the tight curves there.

I’m not sure of the reasons why, as I say this would be in an ideal world, not my little fantasy one that I like to dip into every now and then :)

Well in my ideal world, i would be boarding an Plymouth bound train at Waterloo , ,the Southern route would never been closed, or singled, the extensive network of branches would not have closed, at each station railway operated feeder bus services would link the villages to the local stations,
