I wonder what the future holds for Tornado. Could there be a fit between the needs of the A1 group and the needs of WCR similar to the MN group and Belmond? The photos on the Northern Belle site are of Princess Elizabeth, Tornado, Tangmere and FS.

All the evidence points to the Northern Belle as a show pony job. I don't think it is going to make any difference whether a Class 8 or a Class 5 is at the front. Apologies if that sounds a bit blunt /obtuse!

A simple shot of 34067 passing Paddy Lane (complete with a blowing cylinder drain cock!):

The above two clips are good to see in that we have a Bulleid Pacific in original condition on the main line so thanks to the team at 10A for getting Tangmere up and running again. However there is a 'but' coming up.

I have a pretty good residual memory of Bulleids. As far as the original version is concerned I don't recall them throwing clag all over the place and sounding off through their drain cocks. It's a bit depressing to see Tangmere like that. I know, it's the S&C and not the relatively flat downlands of the south of England but nevertheless it's not a good look even as a show pony, as commented on in #162.

Wasn’t City of Wells nicknamed the Volcano for chucking clag around Al or am I mistaken :(

Well except it did not go anywhere on the S&C today (I've just got back from seeing it at Arnside in the sunshine no leaks from the front - but it was only drifting).

When it went past this morning at Lambrigg the leaking taps (drain cocks) are not a good look but at least it shows that not all the work is just coming from the 47 at the back!?

Yet more overcast conditions but dry as SRBB class No. 34067 'Tangmere' works the northbound 'Northern Belle' through Greenholme and onto Penrith

    Northern Belle 67 2 NP.jpg

With Black Combe Fell as a backdrop SRBB class No. 34067 'Tangmere' heads the return 'Northern Belle' through Kirksanton back to Carnforth and then onto Telford

Different version of a close call at Oxenholme.

They do - allowed with the usual mitigation of stewards at droplights between Maryport and Carlisle.

Any predictions for Saturday 28/10/23 for motive power, 34067 or diesel?

The NB always needs to have a diesel for the ETH/AC on the Mk 2 coaches.

Yes I am an active volunteer
It also needs it for traction, it’s a very heavy train
