We still seem to call them “wheelchair accessible saloons”!

It could be because they do a little more than provide disabled access - CET toilets, baby changing facilities (I think) etc. There's one avaible for each of the main sets in use: Three Mk 1s equivalent to the Gresley, the Gresley example, and the dining set has the earliest iteration in the form of a rebuilt Mk 1 BG. If the NYMR ever sees a vintage dining set formed, or a second teak train then further vehicle will presumably have to be provided.

PS, in my earlier post I forgot to mention that the Thompson non-corridor lavatory composite is another one progressing well and likely to be available in the next year or two, with NER TO 945, GNR Howlden RTO 189 and Gresley LNER TK 23896 all swelling the fleet in the next few years.

At the Bluebell, the official designation, painted on the vehicle end, is MPV (for Multi-Purpose Vehicle.) The open saloon area of the two coaches has also been used as a Bar Car for Rail Ale trains. We don't seem to call them that in practice though.

Whilst I've thankfully never needed the facilities provided in the accessible toilet Mk1s, I have used the facilities and theyre spacious and well provided for. I think they do the line a credit, but someone who uses the additional facilities on a more practical level may have a differing opinion.

Edit: Assuming the CETs are functioning of course!

4TC DTSO 76301 arrived at the Swanage Railway on Monday 31st July 2023 from the Bellingham Heritage Centre in Northumberland. 76302 will arrive later - once the centre's replacement Mk III coach [41204 converted from Mk3a FO 11023] has been adapted and open for their "Tea on the Train" business. It is rumoured that some of the 125 Preservation team have been helping with the adaptation of 41204 to have a kitchen / prep space while retaining maximum seating capacity.

The same lorry that brought 76301 southwards carried BR Bogie Bolster B 923235 from the Swanage Railway to the Didcot Railway Centre.

Isn’t that 5 DTSOs the 4TC group have now? I wonder what the plan is? Second TC set at some point?

There would appear to be 8 vehicles in play (see below), more than enough for their stated aims of a 5-coach TC set including buffet car, plus a sixth (spare driving car) and a spares donor.

The latest additions still leaves an extra driving car outside of that fleet. The WIBN brigade would note that they are only one TBSK vehicle away from being able to have two 4-coach sets (one with buffet, one without) and still have a spares donor.

    69332 TSRB (ex 4-BIG unit)
    70824 TBSK**
    70855 TFK
    76275 DTSO** (ex Hastings Diesels)
    76298 DTSO (reportedly spares donor)
    76301 DTSO (ex Bellingham)
    76302 DTSO (Bellingham)

35069, Strathspey's BSK in a kilt is due back at Aviemore soon after a contract overhaul at Wirksworth. Last I saw it, it was part disabled access, part staging area for caterings dishes with a tartan moquette in the compartments for evening diner/ first class.

I see a load of the old, heavily vandalised, postal stock that was previously stored at Hellifield made its (I am assume very slow) way over to Carnforth between two Class 37's on Wednesday evening.

AFAIK West Coast still own the sidings and the land. The land is partly used as a car park particularly for steam specials. A log train was recently operating from the sidings hauled by a Colas 56. Operation of the points and movements into and out of the sidings were controlled by a West Coast operative who had come from Carlisle just to perform that duty. I'm not sure if the log trains are to become a regular occurrence. Someone local said the postal stock had been sold for scrap but it looks like some have been saved for the original planned purpose, recycling the bogies IIRC.

I see several freshly painted former RES vehicles have moved from Carnforth to Bolton and Embsay this week, I saw these freshly painted at Carnforth the other week, no idea if they were those recently moved up from Hellifield?

One BG and four PCVs. At least 94326 was in the rake that moved to Carnforth and has been confirmed as now being at Embsay, so looks like it's the same bunch.
