Agreed - a far more worthy 'name' to put on the side of an engine than the Trust's usual military theme.

I am pretty sure he's also an advisor to the G5 and the "Sandringham" projects too.

Agreed. The entire works should be dedicated to his memory.

Thanks for the warning about the music. I won't even try to watch.

Well, he's still with us so let's be thankful for that and long may it continue - but "The David Elliott Works" has a nice ring to it.

I still get the Telegraph but, considering that I am a covenantor and have put several thousands into Tornado and the P2, I feel disappointed that the first I knew of the Youtube video of the Open Day was when it was posted on Nat Pres. I do, however, regularly get emails asking me for more money.

I haven’t had the Telegraph for months and I now only get requests for funds by post. I’m a P2 founder and covenantor

In the current climate and in my current position, it'll be a long time before the P2 team get any of my money: I simply don't have it to spare any more. Many are in a very different financial situation now and no matter how much the begging bowl is got out, if you don't have the money....

The background sound is actually barely noticeable...and what is being said is well worth listening too. The whole project is very much a tribute to David Elliott.

The latest Mikado Messenger says of the monoblock "This unique and complex fabrication is the first three cylinder monobloc for a steam locomotive manufactured in the UK for over 50 years." Green Arrow's was made a lot longer ago than that. When and what would have been the last one made here?

Can't answer your question, but it would have been cast and machined at Gorton Works.

And what three cylinder monoblocs would they have been casting in the sixties?

I'd hazard a guess as the mid-1950s when the last V2 monoglot cylinders set was cast. After then it was individual cylinders that were fitted, locos with them were recognisable by the outside steam pipes.

That's over fifty years ago. I realise it might not seem that to people what was there. I guess technically you could read "over fifty years ago" to imply that someone was making cast monobloc cylinders in 1972 but I'm going to assume that wasn't the case.

Better late than never then. Let’s hope it passes all inspections and tests satisfactorily.

Little point in it being delivered before the cylinder block is delivered. Given the supply and quality of materials situation we are in having a little more time can be beneficial in order to carry out double check examinations.

Most recent news is the Monobloc is having a couple of weld repairs, and is due on site imminently.

The completed cylinder block has been delivered to Darlington. I expect that the next news from the trust will be about Tornado and I suspect this will come about quite soon - that ETCS must be making progress.
