Similarly, I have some guys that'll sew Gricerdon this beautiful gold robe, they just need a whole bundle of cash upfront and regular payments to deliver it.

Sarcasm won’t help the railway but money will

I only wrote it once! Of course money will help the railway - that's a given...... but I still don't expect that many of the linesiders will have bought a ticket. Do you seriously believe that all the linesiders who turn out for mainline steam have all bought tickets for the train they are photographing? Why would a loco running on a heritage line attract different behaviour? Most photographers seem think they are doing the railway a favour by being there ("my photos could be used for publicity purposes" - ignoring the fact that virtually none of them will!).

As always, some will and some won't. Many support in other ways; some will not and just benefit from the contributions of others. It was ever thus, and I see little good in bemoaning it.

I wasn't bemoaning it, I was simply pointing out the likely cold hard reality.

In between watching Touring Cars, yesterday,'s F1 and driving my wife to and from her role as a volunteer barmaid at the Jazz festival I did sneak out for a couple of images. Interesting set of headcode discs as well this weekend. IMG_2903.JPG IMG_2905.JPG IMG_2914.JPG out for a couple of images.

I'd love to see some of the photos from the gallery at Castle View from our last trip today. The light was absolutely stunning.

Well I suppose it could attract no one. That would be disappointing.

I was invited to travel on one of the special trains on Saturday, which I greatly appreciated. I had supported the T3's restoration but I would have thought that quite a few people must have given considerably more than me and hadn't expected to be included on the invitation list. It was a fantastic day, virtually wall-to-wall sunshine and well worth the very early start from East Sussex. The T3 looked absolutely stunning and although I gather it still needs a bit more of a "shake down" before being entrusted with longer trains, it seems to cope pretty well - certainly showing no problem making steam. It was particularly good to be travelling in one of the railway's Maunsell coaches. I haven't been in one of these and most impressive they are.

As I was on the second (14.05) special train, after the speeches ended, I drove up to Harman's cross to photo graph the first (12.35 ex-Swanage) train from the overbridge east of the station and was very surprised to find I was the only photographer at this popular location, especially as it was due to run non-stop to Norden and therefore was going to be working harder than usual at this spot. Indeed, there weren't as many photographers out as I had expected. Still, the regular service trains were well filled, which is more important from the railway's finances point of view.

A big thank you to everyone involved in putting on such a great show. Who would have thought back in the 1970s when the pioneers started the project to restore the Swanage branch that no fewer than three ex-London & South Western Railway locos, including this magnificent 4-4-0, would end up being based on the line?

And did you know you were travelling behind "the worlds most famous steam locomotive" as well.

Does look a bit like a cut and paste page from when the Flying Scotsman visited?
But the 563 did go to Ontario, as well as Kings Cross, for the Railway Children show, so has some "fame"

Yes I did think it was a cut or copy paste error. Still it gave me a smile.
Perhaps it will be on a CME or Waverley next year then:);):D

Does anyone know the identity of the Rebuilt (Unrestored) Bulleid Pacific that was leaving Herston Works at 1800 tonight (9/10/23) on a S A Smith lowloader?
I only got a glimpse of it as I was driving past on my way home, The only loco I can think of is 34058, but I thought it was at Sellinge in Kent.

34053? It was at Herston Works awaiting a move to Tyseley.
