Yes, but you have to dismantle two panniers so you have extra parts...
But it's OK because they weren't being restored, they were just sitting in a shed so that makes it ok

Sorry, no. That boiler is earmarked for something much bigger…

Apparently someone's had an idea on how to use up all the left over bits from Didcot's 'New-build' projects.

I know that the GWR didn't care much about crew comfort, but putting them on starvation diets so they could fit through the cab doors seems very OTT!

If you think that is awesome you need to go to spec savers! Still, guess it’s an improvement on most GW locomotives.

You could move the bunker back a few inches or so.

Seeing that this ' 7027 ' is still thread drifting along in a kind of life after death fashion.. l just thought l would like to post an example of one 'new build ' they , Didcot, made earlier. It was billed as the star of the show at the GCR and in my opinion lived up to that handsomely, with many positive comments from others. I am more of an LMS person but that doesn't mean l am anti GWR like many who post on here. Anyway here is the beautiful Lady herself. Photo by Karl Lyons with permission.

Just illustrating when it is done right. Prominent in that very photo are the tapered buffers that had to be made from scratch as standard parallel ones would not be authentic for a saint of that configuration as built, which much was made of by the GWS at the time as the importance of being accurate, compare and contrast with whacking a Castle boiler on a 47xx chassis and arguing that its a 47xx 'cos it won't be obviously incorrect.

No arguing it isn't a what could have been locomotive, but if the GWR had gone down that route I would imagine it wouldn't have been numbered in the 47xx series.
