Is the WTT still accurate? I didn't notice 45407 anywhere on it.

45407 is missing in action doing the Welsh Mountaineer with 45231, unsure at this stage whether it will return to particpate in the second weekend.

I believe that the plan is 45407 will be at least used on the Esk Valley on the second Sunday - you are quite right that it is away the first weekend.

With the turning of 76079 and 45212, will this remove any "nose to nose" double heading during the gala, just looks odd in my opinion.

I remember that 61264 and 45212 doing this at a recent gala - weird.

Don't mind tender to tender running, like 45231 and 75029 during the Autumn event last year.

Tornado is doing Grosmont to Battersby on Saturday? I don't understand. I thought some trains ran though from Grosmont to Whitby and back on Saturdays. On Sunday 3/10 May the timetable says the Whitby - Battersby trains are running. Harold.

Yes thats normally the case, but on gala's trains also run the other way along the esk valley line to Glaisdale and Battersby.

Saturday evening that is, with the Diner. During the day it'll be Grosmont - Pickering.

NYMR gala timetables can be confusing if you don't understand what is happening and the limitations behind them. The core timetable is generally an hourly service from Pickering-Grosmont and return. Some trains on the Saturday and Monday are extended through to Whitby. These trains have to fit in between the Northern Esk Valley line service and this effectively limits NYMR Whitby trains to three each way. When Northern aren't running trains on the Sunday the NYMR can use the full length of the line from Whitby - Battersby. One train set starts out from Pickering at 09.00 and runs through to Whitby. It then leaves Whitby @ 11.00 and runs through to Battersby and then back to Whitby, arriving there @ 13.55. It leaves whitby again @ 14.20 and runs through to Battersby and then back to Whitby, arriving @ 17.10. Finally, it leaves Whitby @ 17.40 and runst through to Pickering. A second train set leaves Grosmont (Pl1) @ 09.40 and heads for Battersby. It then returns to Grosmont, arriving and terminating @ 11.50. It leaves Grosmont for Battersby again @ 12.50, returning back to Grosmont by 15.15, where it terminates.

In addition to these trains, there are evening diners from Groamont -Battersby and return on the Saturday and Sunday.

    RE: Gala Programmes

    From NYMR Forum;

Any one who has PRE ORDERED a copy can collect them any of the station shops. Due to various loco's having to be changed from their allocated slots/paths, a separate print out is available free of charge to anyone who has brought a Gala Guide Book. It may be worth bringing a printout of your paypal email for back up.

Looks like changes are at hand which is very unfortunate when printed programmes are involved, just hope the changes are not too extensive.

Thanks for the clarification Steve, but Bean-Counter wrote Tornado is doing Grosmont - Battersby(?) on Saturday, this doesn't compute, especially as the NYMR website is saying it's working the main trains over the Moor (I guess the 09.30 and 12.30 but I will pick the T/T up on arrival Saturday) and 'book early' as these trains will be full. I think he means Grosmont - Pickering. I guess 60163 will be doing the Pickering/Whitby - Battersby trains on Sunday. Harold.

Sorry - having read back what I wrote, it isn't very clear that the Saturday Grosmont to Battersby is the evening diner like the Friday Grosmont to Pickering. In addition to the Pullmans (I will check to at the press launch if there are any seats left for dining) but there is also non-Pullman seating on the back of the train which will have refreshments available.

Tornado will be working between Grosmont and Pickering during the day. Saturday, 2nd May, is expected to be very busy and it is advised to pre-book reserved seats on Tornado's trains (this will work by being allocated a seat in a particular coach, with the capacity of that coach being sold rather than an individual seat being allocated i.e. 64 people will have bookings in a 64 seats Third Open). This can be done on 01751 472508.

I will update on locos later today, but 30926 is not likely to make at least this first weekend due to problems the manufacturers of the new Superheater elements have had with their production.

The Saturday evening Battersby run is off Grosmont at 'around' 19:45 ('around' is what they told me when I 'phoned!) back at around 22:45. Non-dining seats at £20 each (Gala rovers not valid on this). Bookings on the number above.
    Too late back for me!

I imagine there will be a lot of disappointed people about on Saturday who didn't know they needed to book for Tornado's trains. That only applies to the 09:30 & 12:30 ex Grosmont and 11:00 & 14:00 ex Pickering, the last round trip doesn't require booking but if it isn't wedged solid, I'll be most surprised!

I don't think it is quite a matter of having to book for Saturday, just strongly advised! For those who have booked, there will be the right number of passengers for the seats in the reserved carriages. Any unbooked seats almost certainly won't be as fortunate!

I'll pass on the idea about e-mailing the amendments.

The main loco news is that the Super D is going to be out today in place of the S & D 7F on the goods train. 53809 is expected to join the fray this afternoon on the 16:30. The loco has had its annual insurasnce exam this week and the motion has been reassembled but a minor safety value fault needed attention this morning. The Super D wasn't meant to be in action today, so its appearance is a bonus!

This is all "expected" as when I left Grosmont Shed just before 5:00 pm last night, the Shed Master was heading up the yard to join the staff in moving 49395 off the wheeldrop after the very inaccessible broken spring had been replaced and was about to move 45212 into place to replace a spring (45212 isn't due to be in action today).

Anyone at the Moors yesterday will know Tornado had its first ever "problem" in the shape of a small leak on a fusible plug. The NYMR team and A1 Trust had this fixed by the afternoon and the loco was back in steam ready for today but the loco did miss the press launch for the event. The assembled press and local dignatories then visited Tornado at the Shed to see her "up close and personal". 76079, complete with "Pocket Rocket" head board, substituted on the official train.

As previously advised, 30926 won't make this weekend at the very least.

To clarify, Tornado is in use between Grosmont and Pickering daily from today until Saturday, 9th May. Sunday 10th May will see Tornado undertake two trips between Grosmont and Battersby and one trip between Grosmont and Pickering.

In addition, Tornado will be undertaking an evening trip from Grosmont to Battersby on Saturday 2nd and Saturday 9th May.

Thank you for the update on the loco news bean-counter.

News from a friend down at the gala today, was that the 16:30 ex Grosmont was the Q6 on its own, which leaves Pickering a loco short in the morning (09:00 and 10:00 departures), unless the freight get an additional loco in the morning perhaps, cannot imagine a banker on Tornado on the pullman tonight......but......

    Thanks again
