Fred, you are absolutely right with your post, if you had a gala made up of resident engines, what would be the point? But anyway , a great gala, & as i said . looking forward to the next one whenever it is . In the meantime why dont you all come to the WSR gala in Oct. !

To me the point of galas isn't just the visiting engines though, it's the intensive service, the different train formations, the late night running etc. Visiting engines are a bonus but not a necessity. If you follow your logic, there is no point running any home fleet engines at gala's as nobody is interested.

I think this gala in general was an exception. 6 visiting engines was an exceptional amount to have and collectively they were a massive draw. Obviously one or two wouldn't have generated the same level of interest but it was the loco's coupled with the intensive service that made the event for me.

The NYMR's galas have always been popular and they typically only have one or two visitors. There's a lot of scepticism on the NYMR that having more visitors is economically viable. My own view is that whilst its nice to see the visitors part of the gala attraction is seeing Grosmont so busy with 4 or 5 engines in the station at a time.

If you refer to the origional plan you will see that 3802 and 80072 were to be running that would of added 2 more to the home fleet.

A cracked Axle on 3802 and lack of cash and Labour soon put paid to 80072

So left with the option of a nine Loco gala, 2 less than last time we decided to look for somthing else

With Repton in bits, the SVR not letting a Manor on the loose I came up with Royal Scot

I owe a lot of thanks to Howard stephens and Steve Lathom and all that have made 6100s visit happen it really was the icing on the cake

    Thanks

    will

I think all visitors will join in that thanks - especially given the lineside rumours as to the health of 6100. It certainly proved its worth and the reliability of the loco whilst at Llangollen says much for its support team. In fact the loco performance from the whole fleet says much for both the crews and the maintenance teams behind them who managed to keep the whole show on the road throughout a very intensive timetable.

I saw & heard the midnight oil being burned - the repairs were being carried out adjacent to your coach Will !!

I was relieved to see 6100 make the final day.

I know I was there, got the pics to prove it

No way was I leaving 6100 until i knew she was fit to run

So all in all 10 locos and no failures over nine days with 5 days intensive running is a good result
