    See if this works ...

As I said first time round - this is really good, but it feels like the trailer to what could be a really interesting 15 or 20 minute interview.

Latest update covers a visit by footplate inspectors to Robertsbridge. Apparent here is a PeteSalmon1.jpg new top dressing of resin bonded pea shingle to the platform surface. Very attractive, and so much better looking than plain tarmac:

If you have to drag your children along, then yes i can see there being a problem, " look we are going on the train, wither you like it or not".

Sorry to spoil the fun, but what you're looking at is the surface of the rough course tarmac. Learned the hard way best to leave the final finishing coat of tarmac until the very last minute, as someone will inevitably come along with the need to cut a trench through the platform for a extra pipe or cable - and so try avoid making a mess of the finished job!

The biggest clue being that it is at a lower level than the drainage channels.

The RVR blog has made one thing very clear. The whole length of line is going to be a construction site. Given the problems we have had with the landowners, they have asked that the site is not visited by anyone without permission. We'd be grateful if people would steer clear for now.

Once again this is how to show you're going to be good neibours, by respecting their wishes and working with them, hopefully over time the landowners will come to accept the railway, and the benefit it would have on the local economy.

It's certainly a lot more involved than just obtaining the land, then clearing it, but hopefully having got access to the track bed now, and fencing looks to have begun, some work can begin later next year, i would imagine that earthworks will be done first on the opened out section, to reinstate the embankment. whilst the wooded section is cleared.

End of year message on the Website HERE This mentions that the TWAO powers have been exercised and that the entire route from the KESR boundary to Robertsbridge is under RVR control.

Does that mean that the recalcitrant landowners refused a negotiated sale, even when faced with compulsory purchase?

None of the parties involved’ve said what negotiations, if any, may’ve taken place since the TWAO was granted and, in the interest of good neighbourly relationships in future, it’s quite possible they never will.
