When chatting to SLL at the gala they seemed to suggest 257 was available for hire early next year but no talk about any others so I would assume they are due to stay at Swanage at the moment.

257 is also currently occupied at Spa Valley

Like many of us, it appears to have been getting a bit rotund in its old age - it may not fit any more … :)

The Swanage Facebook page mentions ‘looking forward to working with the MHR in future’. So perhaps sharing of locomotives between the two might be more common. Makes sense with the shortage of working locos at the MHR, and the SR financial problems being mitigated by hiring out of any surplus locomotives.

Has there been a mainline tour between the two railways, , if from Swanage, go out via the Portsmouth main, so via Guildford, then on the return diesel hauled to Woking, then up the Weymouth line,

Surprised it hasn't been done already! I know there was one to Bluebell from MHR

Imagine if WCR, were providing the engine and stock, 35018 to Alton with 47 on rear, 35005 couples on, so double headed MN's over the alps, 12 plus dead 47, that should make them cough.,18 can go to ropley to be serviced, and the return working 35018 on rear, 47 and 35005 hauling, 35005 can come off in the loop, :)

    Nice idea.
However, I don't know if 35018 would be allowed on to the Watercress Line. Isn't it now owned by the one who cannot be named? 34067 wasn't allowed to venture onto MHR metals when the end of SR steam rail tour visited in 2007 as it was owned by him at the time.
34007 with a class 33 assisting (outward) and 35005 (return) hauled the excursion over the Hampshire Alps.

More plausible than the extension into Winchester that was allegedly being hidden from everyone!

34070 has now arrived at Alresford. I kept checking last night but it arrived this afternoon!

35018 is nothing to do with JB.

Thanks for the clarification. I had heard lineside rumours that he had bought the MN after selling 73096.
