The Crosti 9Fs ran without them even after the Crosti equipment had been removed.

Yes, but the Crosti smokebox was different to a standard 9F.
I must have been one of the last people to see 92134 in steam as I spent a lot of time at Mollington Street (8H) during the last few years of steam up to November 1967.

highlight for me at yesterday's gala was the shiny new engine at Grosmont - even if it wasn't hauling any of the trains.
The TV cameras seemed to have an interest as it backed into Grosmont station early afternoon where it played with a few wagons.
It was interesting to see in close up the numbers stamped on components and to-be-restored engines 92219 and 92207 have donated motion parts for 92134.

    Thank you CH 19
Yes, I agree. The Schools has what seem to me some fairly unique details, even when comparing with other Maunsell designs such as the S15.
I wouldn't fancy trying to get that bogie wheel splasher to run in 4mm! :)

On the NYMR Facebook page it states that 92134 hauled it's first passenger service today. Initially I thought "well, first in preservation", but it occurred to me it might well be it's first ever passenger turn. I know 9Fs pulled passenger trains now and then in BR service, anyone know if 92134 did?

A pleasure to see this fine loco back in steam again at Grosmont on Saturday. A great steam gala NYMR!

Thank you! 61 years between passenger turns is quite a gap though.

This remains unanswered from a few years back - does anyone know if a new tender is in build for 92134 or would another need to be borrowed should 73050 need it's own back at some point?

I understand the tender from 92214 will be hired by 92134 when '214 is withdrawn next year.

A quantity of components for a new tender including wheels, frame plates etc were with the loco when it was stored at Bury, so a good start towards a new tender, whether there has been further progress since i can't say.

Thanks for both responses. I re-remembered that the tender 92134 arrived at Woodhams with is now paired with 71000 Duke of Gloucester

I thought the problem was the frogs on points which had a raised area where the face of passing wheels would go by ie not the inside of the wheels where the flange is.

Since first hearing this I have looked out for them long term and they seem to be quite rare. I can recall seeing them on the points in the throat at Liverpool Street station some time ago. Were relative few ever fitted? And have those that were survived?

They are thoroughly self evident, no difficulty about identifying at a glance, in fact surprisingly obtrusive. I would in fact doubt any between Middlesborough and Whitby or even at Middlesborough and I am convinced it could be assured that any new points did not have them.

Evening Star was certainly allowed out from the NRM on the network: what were the exact routes? Have they acquired the wrong points since?

I doubt if Whitby has acquired the "wrong type" of point crossings, but the loco is privately owned, and the owners may not wish to go to the expense of buying and fitting the equipment required by NR for it to run to Whitby. They're probably saving up to build a new tender for it, to replace its present hired-in one!
