That was my first thought too9, but it may be the case that a separate pot of money is involved, in the form of the Trust that bought 46115.

Or the pots of money that bought 34067 or 5110 - there seem to be a few different loco owning groups at Carnforth

Does make a certain amount of sense as they're the Jubilee guys. You'd hope with two in their care and a third on their roster that there might be scope for some kind of gathering of the four at some point if this is true.

Seems to be the general drift in preservation, really. Companies concentrating their expertise on certain companies - Tyesley reportedly focusing on GWR stuff, the recent transfers of Bulleids to SLL, and LMS stuff concentrated in Carnforth and Riley's. The LNER doesn't really have an equivalent but operational LNER locos are in shorter supply than ever. Only really LSL keeping an actively pluralist stable.

60163, 2007 and separately 69023 . Given much of 60163's overhaul has taken place in Loughborough I'll leave others to assess whether Darlington meets the critria

With respect, Darlington has only recently been completed, and fitting out has been happening over the last year.

I am all for criticism where and when it is due, but the new works were not complete, the old works had most of a new P2 inside. What would any loco group do at that point?

At MNLPS we did not take the decision to contract out work lightly and to have the locomotive move from its home base for overhaul.

Sorry to dig this up - my understanding is that Mr Beet intends to overhaul it one more time and then at the end of the next ticket, it’s uncertain he’d do it again. I think due to how old he’d be by then?

TBH Alex I’ve no idea whether it’s this ticket or it’s next, it did strike me as a similar sort of situation as with a certain Scottish Farmer and his A4.
The crank/gricer in me is always happy to see a 3 cylinder Stanier 4-6-0 in action, the pragmatist and accountant (blame my father) in me asks that all important question ‘who’s paying for it?’

It’s just occurred to me that West Coast have, in the past few months bought both 5593 and 5110. Both haven’t run for a long time bro will require a costly restoration. Either it’s purely coincidental/opportunistic that they’ve acquired two class 5 locos in a very short space of time, or does Mr Smith know something we don’t about an upcoming contract/opportunity?
Obviously both were made before the recent court ruling but still.

Unless you have some insider info...

5110 was spotted heading in the direction of Carnforth, but with no confirmation of who had actually purchased it.

5593 - no one has announced anything yet, its all just rumours at present.

This is all fair comment. Unless they’re painting both up as ‘Hogwarts Castle’ and exporting them abroad :D

Picked up a copy of the latest Trackside today and it seems the loco hasn't been sold to WCRC.

But the loco reportedly needs £750,000 spent on it and Tyseley has already decided it won't be put through the Works, and the quotes from Michael Whitehouse suggests they wouldn't rule out a potential sale, but it's ultimately down to the Trustees and not him
