Was it an 08 or was it D0226? I believe that it has a slightly higher top speed than a Jocko, I believe that above 21mph the gearboxes on an 08 tend fall apart? (As BR found out)

Not sure Matt as at first I thought there was nothing on the back. By the time it registered fully it had gone out of shot. So maybe you are correct.

It was definitely D226 Vulcan - designed with a max speed of about 40mph.

35 mph according to my Platform 5.
Hate to be a pedant but D226 was the 40 that was never named, (Media) I believe? Very much the odd one out of the first batch named after ocean liners.

Vulcan carried D226 for a while before becoming D0226.

I didn’t know that Ian, myself and my friends had a conversation about this way back in 2001/2 when ‘Vulcan’ was in DP1 Blue, we thought the KWVR had cocked up… Nice to be proven wrong :)

Had haulage with it back in early 1969. Endured a two car dmu on a railtour from Peterborough to Keighley. Our KWVR motive power should have been 45212 but as we arrived it split the points while running round and ended up in the dirt. D226 was sent as a substitute. We were not impressed. Even less so with the BR employee who shouted out "that's what happens when you run old steam locos".

And of course I even managed to mis identify a Standard 4 as a Standard 5.

I think Media was a Cunard cargo liner but why was D226 never named? Possibly because the ship was renamed Flavia at about the same time?

No idea (shrugs shoulders), I believe that Mr Waterman has an ex loco condition Media nameplate though…

Had a chat with a mate earlier, the zero was added to ‘Vulcan’ to avoid confusion with the BR D226 (possibly known as Media) :)

With Keighley Station now shut for a few months it seems that after dropping off / pick up at Ingrow, - trains run onto 'GN Straight'. Cant think why they would do that except to run round...? so has a set of points been put in on the long holding siding to allow that to happen outside the station ?

Trains over the coming months will be top n' tailed with steam on the southern end (Oxenhope), diesel locomotive on the northern end (Keighley). Services will run to the GN Straight then reverse back towards Oxenhope (no run-round facilities are available).

So we are visiting the KWVR on the first Saturday in July (maybe its the first Sunday, havent decided yet).
Whats the best things to do to see the railway? We could just travel up and down a couple of times, but I am not sure that allows enthusiasts like us to fully get to grips with the railway. We will also have the car so can drive a bit if needed.
Whats the best plan for a day out on the railway to fully appreciate it?
Will we be able to access Keighley station?

Keighley had reopened. I’d recommend a visit to Ingrow West for both the VCT and Bahamas Loco Society museums. There’s also an exhibition with locos and carriages at Oxenhope.

Another vote for VCT and BLS museums at Ingrow. Fabulous.

The exhibition hall at Oxenhope was a bit disappointing when we visited last July-little to no info on the exhibits and no one around. A vast contrast to the VCT and BLS museums.

For a railway that was one of the pioneers I thought it would be a very polished operation with no rusting “bits” lying around, but unfortunately some areas were very tatty.
Scenery was nice and 78022 was in good form.

There is also the Oakworth venue where artefacts include the Railway Children waiting room, refreshment bar, the station house and crane stabled in the goods shed [if open] A visit to Haworth where the road bridge overlooks the shed yard also allows non-enthusiast to sample the Bronte experiences.

I like the Oxenhope shed. It is an active storage shed, hence the minimal interpretation as things change in there regularly, but I wish every railway had one - where you can walk amongst the inactive locos and stock. Embsay would really benefit from it

I agree that it’s a great space, but the lack of information was disappointing especially after the excellent information panels on the exhibits at Ingrow.

Had a lovely day going up and down the line with my wife (not an enthusiast!). Haven’t visited the Bahamas and Vintage Carriage Trust bases at Ingrow before - wow. A sign of how genuinely interesting they are is that we missed 2 planned trains because we were engrossed - especially impressive that Mrs P was interested!

The other thing about the Worth Valley is how universally friendly and positive everyone is - and I mean everyone. Spent in everywhere we visited (excellent jacket potato’s in the catering carriage at Oxenhope) and a proper pulled pint on the train.

A perfect day out for us - thanks KWVR :)
