Is there some sort of loco crew-worked EKT type machine to release a second token at the previous station then?

I think we're probably a bit too far down the fully signalled route to deviate from that now, I've always thought it a curious decision quite how we've worked it, it'll be a token-less section when commissioned too, all working by acceptance levers.

The section is between Glaisdale and Whitby with key token instruments. However, there is an intermediate key token instrument at Grosmont which allows access to the section. The key token releases the ground frames at Grosmont and Whitby. The tokens are withdrawn by the driver. There are no ground frames at Glaisdale, the points at either end of the loop being spring operated with no FPL, only points indicators. It’s as simple as you can get.

Could the interlocking be arranged to allow the box to be switched out so far as signals are concerned but with the points for running round released by the train staff as at present?

A question arising from our excavations at Broadway today. Some crockery was found in the discarded ruins of the old P2 waiting room, and the demolished platforms.
A cup bears the initials BR-R.

Does anyone know what they mean? What did we find there?

    IMG_20231214_143153886.jpg

One of the cup bottoms was stamped ' Mintons - 1931'. That is almost certainly GWR tableware, of which we found a great deal by the goods shed a few years back. But it was strange to find it in the debris of the waiting room.

    There was not, no.

A vague guess as simply British Railways - Refreshments?

Was there a curled-up BR cheese sandwich, still in its wrapping, in the same hole, with a best before date of 3024

I don't know what it stood for, but the Science museum hold a "Plate, ceramic, white glaze, British Railways, marked 'BR-R', by Swinnertons, Staffordshire, 220mm x 20mm." (https://collection.sciencemuseumgro...39657/ceramic-dinner-plate-british-rail-plate - no image).

So that suggests that what you have is at least railway related.

(NB - the catalogue number of the item is 1998-7944, but I think that means it was acquired in 1998, not that it dates from 1998).

Reminds me of the time I bought a job lot of hand lamps. One of them was stamped B R C . I was trying to work out where C would have been in relation to BR. Turns out it was Barry Railway Company!

Things are going well at the Broadway P2 rebuild. We've got the concrete block foundation in. The next stage is 15 tons of type 1 infill, insulation and the concrete floor. That should happen later in April, after delivery of the materials in mid-April.

The viaduct is open again! That allowed a class 37 to prove the line today, and visit Broadway with a purpose: To collect the 3 wagons loaded with spoil.

    IMG_20240321_100807232.jpg
Here 37 215 rumbles into the P2 road, not a common occurrence.

A third party Dogfish was then pushed into the storage siding at the north end.

    IMG_20240321_101023070.jpg

After the Mermaid was reattached to the back of the train, the loco was ready to set off for Toddington:

    IMG_20240321_103556652_HDR.jpg

The viaduct appeal barely scraped together enough money for the waterproofing, but not enough for the parapet repairs, nor even for the planned repointing of the brickwork.

If you'd like to help, the appeal by our charity the GWR Trust is still open:
    https://www.gwrt.org.uk/donate/stanway-viaduct-appeal

As the GWRT is paying for both the viaduct repair as well as the P2 waiting room rebuild, your donation would also help Broadway. Thank you for your help, it would be most appreciated!
